Practical ability of geography is one of the core qualities of geography subject according to ?The Standard of General Senior Geography?in 2017,so geography practice has been paid more and more attention in geography teaching. The geography garden provides space and curriculum resources for students to do practical activities. But there are some problems, such as unscientific design, low efficiency, low usage, lack of use record, lack of maintenance and management, etc. The optimization and transformation of the geography garden will be the focus of subsequent development. This paper designs a questionnaire survey and sampling interview for teachers and students in middle school in order to analyze the setting and use of geography gardens in middle school and to get the possible problems of geography practice course,as well as the experience and suggestion from teachers. The results show that students are very interested in practice activities, but their experience is not much, and they think their practical ability of geography is not good.Students are most interested in field investigation and simulative experiments, and they prefer geography gardens with specimens and models or astronomical and meteorological observation.Little funds, limited times and safety are the problems of practice activities.Teachers prefer observation, inspection, experiment and investigation. It's feasible to organize the willing students or the all students to take part in geography practice according to the teachers' experience. They suggest paying more attention on the quality as students complete the activities. They also suggest taking comprehensive evaluation. They often let the students write a report or make a model as the achievement of activities. In the case of developing and implementing practical course in geography garden of Shaxi No.1 secondary school, the general goal of the course is to cultivate students' scientific spirit, enhance students' practical ability of Geography and stimulate students' interest in learning. There are eight lessons including meteorological observation, field survey, simplified orienteering and other activities. It takes multiple evaluation methods. The students work in groups in this course. There are some new problems in this course. The grouping mechanism needs to be scientific planned, the preparation and using tools needs to be improved, the students from different class need an online way to communicate, geography classroom is the necessary assistance due to the limitations of outdoor gardens.Through these researches, the following strategies are obtained for developing and implementing the practical courses based on geography garden.Firstly, develop the course in every aspect: develop the three-dimensional,serialized course based on school's resources;develop the hardware continuously with the mode of "construction-maintenance-rectification ";develop the textbook focus on practice task sheet.Secondly, implement the course institutionally: standardize the students' attendance, material preparation, process to enter the park, activity steps, way to select winner;practice as tasks, students active follow the task list;students active in group regularly and adjust the group with the principle of intra-group heterogeneity,inter-group homogeneity.Thirdly, implement the course efficiently with multiple evaluations: evaluate with multi-dimension including the speaking, demonstration, making by hand, operation and cooperation;evaluate in multi-time including in class, after class and end-of-term;evaluate by multi-person including students and teacher.Besides,it's necessary to improve course development, activity organization and teaching aids making by teachers' teamwork.
