Geographic Study Practical Activities In Secondary School Geography Curriculum

Geography is one of the most important basic education subjects. Its research object is the geographical environment and human-earth relationship. It has several characteristics—the comprehensiveness, the region, the openness and the practice. Its research object and the subject characteristic decide the middle school geography teaching must go out of the class and carry on all kinds of activities positively by entering into the nature. Students may obtain the knowledge, enrich their emotions, develop their abilities and consummate their independent personalities in the bountiful geography activities. By way of the important direction of geography education reform and development, the new geography standard gives us the explicit request for the geography activities. It provides the basis for developing the geography teaching activities.Combining the geography teaching, the theme, the content and the way of carrying on geography activities inside or out of the class is extremely widespread. This article conducted the geography expedition activities research by the theme "The Traveling Resources and Its Development of General Mountain in Nanjing" and by the way of geography expedition.Three parts are encompassed in this article. The first two parts are discussions about some elementary theories. The third part is about exploration and ponder of geography expedition teaching practice.The first part, embarking from the education angle, reviews the practice teaching thoughts and its development in different times and promulgates the rational from the expedition practice connotation and relevant conditions in current domestic and foreign education.The second part analyses the close relationship between the expedition practice and the middle school geography teaching as well as its vital role in inquiry learning and students' geography abilities, and discusses the significance and value of carrying out expedition practice teaching. The author thinks that it is advantageous to developing students' abstract thinking and thinking in images, discovering their dives, promoting their initiative comprehension and innovating their qualities and abilities by carrying out synthesis practice teaching and helping students construct and independent and cooperative study method.
