The increasing number of people with mental disabilities poses great challenges to community rehabilitation of mental disorders.Based on the Chinese context, this study hopes to provide a new perspective and case study for the community rehabilitation of mental disorders by studying the new intervention model(UFE).UFE is a mental disease rehabilitation model originated from Italy's mental health service field. It refers to a concept and method that the recovered mental disorder patients and their families use their own experiences to serve the unrecovered mental disorder patients and their families.Previous studies on mental disorders have problems such as insufficient reflection on the needs of clients, inaccurate community rehabilitation models and higher costs for small community rehabilitation institutions. The UFE model is similar to the general peer support and self-help groups, but its application process is more in line with the reality of community rehabilitation of mental disorders. It is the deepening and expansion of peer support.Through literature review and the practice of the institution, the author defines the UFE model as the community rehabilitation organization for mental disorders training professional volunteers to assist in mental disorders rehabilitation activities according to their patients' conditions.Under the activity design, professional guidance and supervision of social workers, the UFE members can be the organizers and leaders of group activities.Qualitative research and quantitative research are combined to determine the effects and advantages of the UFE members' participation through comparative analysis between the experimental group and the control group. After analyzing the clients' problems and their needs, the social worker judges that the clients are in the early stage of recovery. The social worker formulated the intervention goals and designed the group activity plans in physiology, psychology, and social integration.Twelve clients were randomly drawn into the experimental group and the control group. The UFE members and the social worker led the group activities respectively. From the process evaluation, the UFE members are superior to the social worker in activity quality, activity content and emotional links with clients.Judging from the result evaluation, the independent sample T test result shows that the UFE model can achieve the same rehabilitation effect as the social worker intervention. At the same time,it can save institution's costs and promote the UFE members' continuous rehabilitation. The UFE model is suitable for small community rehabilitation institutions for mental disorders to carry out group rehabilitation activities, especially those lacking full-time social workers.Social workers play the role of training, supervision and evaluation in the UFE model. Finally, the social worker has preliminarily summarized the general strategies in applying the UFE model, giving guidance to other community rehabilitation institutions with mental disorders from the aspects of cause analysis, the UFE member selection, member training management, multiple evaluation and supervision, and response to ethical risk.
