School culture is the key factor to promote the development of school.As we all know,the secondary school stage is a critical period for students to establish values.The changes of the times and the demand for high-quality education also bring new challenges to the construction of secondary school culture,which need the guidance of cultural leadership of secondary school principals.In the newly issued "Principal Professional Standard","creating educational culture" is regarded as the professional responsibility of secondary school principals,which further emphasizes the need to improve the cultural leadership level of principals.Therefore,the research on principal's cultural leadership needs to be deepened.This study proposes to analyze the cultural leadership of secondary school principals from the perspective of school culture level,draw lessons from the theoretical viewpoints of Hofstede,Schein and Zhao Zhongjian,and introduce the requirements of headmasters' professional standards.The analytical framework of this study is "four levels of cultural leadership" : material cultural leadership,behavioral cultural leadership,institutional cultural leadership and spiritual cultural leadership.Then,based on the framework,the relevant data are collected by interview and observation methods,and the data are analyzed by thematic analysis.According to the results of the analysis,this study makes a preliminary exposition on the practice of the current four-level cultural leadership of secondary school principals.After in-depth comparison,it is found that there is a certain gap in professional understanding,practical methods and specific behavior in the cultural leadership of different middle school principals.Based on the analysis of the reasons,it is found that the cultural leadership of middle school principals is influenced by many factors,such as out-ofschool environment,internal development of the school and individual principals.Finally,based on the analysis of the realistic differences and influencing factors obtained from the investigation,this paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the cultural leadership: within the organization,secondary school principals must recognize the hierarchy and complexity of cultural leadership,clarify the current needs of school development,unite relevant stakeholders,and improve leadership behavior in multiple levels and ways.As far as individuals are concerned,as cultural leaders,secondary school principals must improve their personal accomplishment and professional ability and convince others with morality.
