In the information age of "knowledge explosion",it is no longer possible to create more modern values by memorizing and simply using knowledge,but rather by discovering,selecting and efficiently using it in the wave of knowledge and information to creatively solve various realistic problems or create new knowledge.The purpose of education is not to let students know more knowledge,but to help them understand the main ideas,principles and processes of each subject,discover the meaning of learning and develop the ability to transfer learning.Recently,many countries are working on the research of key competencies in order to meet the challenges of the information age.Our country’s educational philosophy and curriculum development have also ushered in the "spring" in history,in the hope of providing teenagers in the new era with the core competencies and values to cope with various new changes and challenges in the future.However,although key competencies has been widely recognized as the purpose of education,there is still a lack of effective approaches to implement the cultivation of key competencies in curriculum design and implementation.At present,the academic community advocates to use "Big Ideas" to reconstruct the subject knowledge system and the structure of course content,which can not only help students establish connections and form meanings,but also emphasize students’ ability to transfer and apply knowledge,so as to provide a path for the effective implementation of key competencies in the classroom.However,for the "Big Ideas" which has attracted wide attention in the world in recent years,it is a problem that how to understand the deep meaning of big ideas and curriculum concept,promote the "localized" progress of big ideas and provide a specific and effective implementation path for the development of curriculum and teaching in our country that needs to be solved at once.Through an in-depth study of the theory of big ideas,combined with the curriculum reform and inspiration of the United States and Canada,as well as the actual situation of China’s secondary school art curriculum and teaching,the author will propose the design principles and teaching strategies of the secondary school art curriculum integrated with big ideas in the context of key competencies,and demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the design and implementation of the unit curriculum.And it can also provide some reference about change the teaching thinking and implementation of the big ideas’ art curriculum,through the design and implementation of the unit curriculum to develop the feasibility and effectiveness of the demonstration.
