Pythagorean Theorem is not only a brilliant pearl in geometry,but also has a wide range of applications in higher mathematics and other scientific fields.Pythagorean theorem is a springboard for learning trigonometry and plane geometry,which connects numbers and forms.It also has universal application in real life.Jade can be polished by stones from other hills.This paper takes the Pythagorean Theorem chapters of MDL,KCP and MGH editions of American Junior Middle School Mathematics Textbooks as examples,respectively from the presentation of the Pythagorean theorem,textbook columns,chapter theme page,history of mathematics,illustration,the introduction of the Pythagorean theorem and converse theorem,description,proof,application and example exercises and other aspects excavate the characteristics and advantages of the American version of textbooks,and provide references for the compilation of Chinese mathematics textbooks and teachers' teaching.Firstly,this paper adopts the literature research method to collect relevant literature,so as to determine the research idea and construct the paper framework.Then apply text analysis,comparative research,and statistical analysis to the text analysis of the Pythagorean theorem chapters of the three editions of the textbook,and study the data statistics of example exercises,and finally explore the characteristics of the textbook setting.Through the study of the Pythagorean Theorem chapter in the three edition textbooks,the following research conclusions are obtained:(1)The editors of American textbooks are experienced in teaching and teach in a wide range of fields;The column design is rich,the position is flexible,and each perform its own duties;Chapter theme page is eye-catching and has "connotation",which catches people's attention;The history of mathematics is extensive and vivid;Illustration applies colorful,better and better.(2)The American textbooks all set up the exploration activities to introduce the Pythagorean Theorem and the inverse theorem of the Pythagorean Theorem,using words,symbols and graphic language to describe the theorem,using the area method to prove the Pythagorean Theorem,the application of the Pythagorean Theorem is comprehensive and broad.(3)The American textbooks focus on reflection,summary,inspiration and guidance.Based on the research conclusions,the following enlightenment are drawn for the compilation of mathematics textbooks in my country:(1)Elementary and secondary school teachers joined the textbook editors;(2)Flexible setting of columns;(3)Improve illustration utilization and enhance the book's "fireworks";(4)Make past serve present,embrace multiculturalism;(5)Introducing Pythagorean Theorem by using Tangram;(6)The proof is rigorous and reasonable;(7)Expand the application scope of Pythagorean Theorem.
