In the "Suggestions on Teaching Material Compelling" of the Chemistry Curriculum Standards for General High Schools(2017 Edition),it is mentioned that the chemistry textbook is the physical and chemical form and text material of the chemistry course, while the chemistry exercises are an important part of the chemistry textbook,an important content and means of daily learning and evaluation, and an important evaluation basis for the implementation of the core accomplishment. In order to encourage students to analyze and solve problems from different perspectives and cultivate students’ divergent thinking and innovative spirit, chemistry exercises should be open. So,the latest edition of the People’s Education and Luke edition of high school chemistry required textbooks in the number of open exercises and quality of what difference? How open is the open problem set? When faced with open questions, what is the level of students’ thinking? This series of questions becomes particularly important. After reading relevant literature on open exercises, this study took the compulsory textbooks of high school chemistry published by PEP and Luke since 2019 as examples to conduct statistical and comparative analysis on the open exercises, and reached the following conclusions:In terms of quantity: the number of compulsory textbooks in PEP edition is greater than that in Luke edition. In terms of quality: the open exercises of the two versions of the required textbooks tend to let students use innovative and dialectical thinking to solve problems. From the perspective of openness: the open exercises in the PEP compulsory textbooks simulate the situation comprehensively, tend to integrate interdisciplinary knowledge, and encourage students to solve problems independently in strategies; However,Luke version of the compulsory textbook lacks the open exercise situation, which tends to chemical knowledge in knowledge and encourages students to solve problems through communication between teachers and students in strategy. Finally,we selected 10 typical sample questions in the compulsory textbooks of the People’s Education Edition and Luke Edition to test students. The test results show that: when facing open questions, students’ thinking level is generally at the single-point structure level, but if they can provide more information, some students can reach a higher level. At the same time, the average score of students also shows that there are differences in the open exercises of the two versions of the required textbooks.Based on the results,we also give some suggestions on the use of open exercises in the compulsory textbooks.
