Biology extra-curricular activity is the effective extension and expansion of the classroom teaching,but its effect is hard to meet its desired prospect in the long term.How to design an effective biology extra-curricular activity? How to carry out this activity effectively? And how to cultivate students' biological science quality in the activity? In this respect,from the scientific literacy the author designs extra-curricular activity with the purpose of promoting the development of students' core quality and obtaining strategy and typical case by combining with textbook and students' actual situation,which provides a reference for teachers.In the research,firstly,the situation of biology extra-curricular activity in a junior high school is generally understood after conducting interviews with the biology teachers.It is revealed by the relevant results that teachers do not understand it deeply.Even though teachers have the ability to design and implement extra-curricular activity,the difficulties still exist accordingly.In this regard,some suggestions are proposed by the teachers for carrying out biology extra-curricular activity.Afterwards,the author designs and implements two rounds of action research on design and practice of biology extra-curricular activity by combining with the content of the first half volume textbook for students of grade seven(Jiangsu edition).The first round of research mainly solved two problems : determining the activity goal and formulating the activity content;Strive for the school support,the implementation of the activity time.On such basis,the second round of biology extra-curricular activity is designed and implemented by the author after reflecting the result of the first round.The second round of research mainly focused on two issues: arranging activities reasonably and paying attention to the guiding role of teachers;Enrich the evaluation method,pay attention to the evaluation of activity process.Finally,design strategies of biology extra-curricular activity are concluded.(1)the objective of the activity is specified for enhancing the students' biological science quality;(2)the activity plan should be made to ensure the smooth running of the activity;(3)the activity's interest should be increased by taking life as background;(4)resources should be explored and the activity forms should be enriched;(5)students should be seen as the center and their ability should be developed;(6)process evaluation should be valued and various evaluation methods should be combined.In the terms of implementation strategy for biology extra-curricular activity,they are respectively:(1)students' study of biological principles should be highlighted;(2)students' ability of scientific inquiry should be developed(3)students should be guided to establish a scientific attitude.
