The ability of scientific inquiry is considered to be a key ability element that students should possess and be able to adapt to life-long development and social needs,which is increasingly becoming a hot topic discussed by frontline teachers.Task-based learning mode is a new learning mode based on the theory of constructivism,with emphasizing the infiltration of teaching content into tasks,so that students could master the initiative of learning,actively construct knowledge and experience,which was suitable for training students’ scientific inquiry ability.The purpose of this research was to explore a task-based learning model applied to the learning of junior high school chemistry,to enhance the junior high school students’ chemistry science inquiry ability.This research was carried for students in the third grade of the 55 th middle school in Luoyang as the practical objects,with the contents of the sixth unit experiment activity 2 "Laboratory Preparation and Properties of Carbon Dioxide" and the seventh unit experiment activity 3 "Combustion Conditions".Based on all of literature analysis,questionnaire surveys and teacher interviews,the task-based learning model was designed to such four links as “Clear tasks”,“Design tasks”,“Resolving tasks” and“Evaluation tasks”,which carried out during the three courses of “Before class”,“In class” and “After class”,respectively,and the scientific inquiry ability were developed in such eight elements as proposing questions,guessing and assuming,making plans,experimenting,collecting evidences,clarifying and summing-up,reflecting and evaluating,and expressing and communicating.It was measured for the changes in the chemical science inquiry ability of the students combined with the post-questionnaire survey,worksheet and test scores between the experimental class and the control class.Three conclusions were drawn as follows.Firstly,the task-based learning model could stimulate students’ desire to learn and help students develop good learning habits,which adapted to the current teaching background.Secondly,the task-based learning model was helpful to cultivate students’ chemistry science inquiry ability,which was proved by the improving of the questionnaire scores,worksheet scores and test scores of the experimental class students compared with the pre-test,and also be different from the control class.Finally,the worksheet was an objective and effective evaluation tool to measure students’ chemistry scientific inquiry ability.Due to various constraints in the thesis,the research conclusions needed to be further improved.It was hoped that the research could provide a favorable reference for the application of the task-based learning model in junior high school chemistry teaching and the cultivation of students’ chemistry scientific inquiry ability.
