As the main settlements for overseas Chinese,Southeast Asia is an important place for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.And in this area,Thailand is the best country for carrying out Chinese teaching.Therefore,how to teach Chinese effectively in Thailand has important practical significance and exploratory value.This thesis research the Chinese classroom teaching in Thailand Phatthalung School based on the theory of Multiple Intelligences.Firstly,the theory of Multiple Intelligences and its application in second language teaching are introduced.Meanwhile,the feasibility of applying the theory to Chinese classroom teaching in Thai middle schools is explained.Secondly,the present situations of Chinese teaching in Thai Phatthalung School are reviewed.The students' Chinese learning situation in Phatthalung school is investigated by questionnaire.Thirdly,through teacher interviews,some problems are discovered in Chinese classroom teaching,including unreasonable curriculum settings,random selection of teaching materials,single classroom teaching mode,and boring language elements teaching methods.Finally,some suggestions about how to adopt Multiple Intelligence theory effectively in Chinese classroom teaching are put forward.The macro-level suggestions are as follows: 1)school should strengthen the emphasis on Chinese,formulate Chinese teaching syllabus,and increase diversified courses;2)when selecting textbooks,pay attention to the pertinence and practicability of the textbooks,and update and adapt the existing textbooks;3)Teachers should establish the teaching concept of "Multiple Intelligences",use a variety of teaching media and teaching aids,use multiple intelligence methods to manage the classroom and adopt a wealth of teaching methods and teaching activities.The micro-level(language elements teaching)suggestions include the design of specific classroom teaching activities in phonetics,vocabulary,grammar,and Chinese characters.It is hoped this case study can provide enlightenment and help to the further development of Chinese teaching in Thai middle schools.
