In language teaching,graded reading—according to the learner's psychological development and reading ability,the targeted provision of suitable reading materials and reading teaching for learners is considered to be an effective way to improve learners' reading ability and language proficiency one.Applying the concept of graded reading to overseas children's Chinese teaching is of great significance to increase children's interest in Chinese reading and improve children's Chinese proficiency.At present,the types and quantities of graded Chinese books written for overseas children learning Chinese are relatively small,and it is difficult to meet the reading needs of learners.In order to help overseas children find Chinese reading materials that meet their Chinese proficiency and reading interests,the author,based on the Youth Chinese Test(YCT)syllabus,researched and designed a set of graded Chinese reading materials for YCT learners,and proceeded according to the plan.It has developed the practice of writing graded reading materials for Chinese as a second language,hoping to provide more practical,rich and interesting graded Chinese reading materials for overseas children who learn Chinese as a second language.This paper mainly uses the literature review method,comparative analysis method,and interview method.By reading and sorting out relevant research documents,the author summarizes the research experience of the predecessors,and takes a solid theoretical foundation as the cornerstone of the research.Using the method of comparative analysis,a comparative analysis of the compilation style of the published excellent Chinese graded reading materials was carried out.It is concluded that the vocabulary,Chinese proficiency level,and course vocabulary can be used as the basis for the grading design of reading materials;the topics of interest to readers should be covered as much as possible when the subject matter is selected;reading materials of the same level can be achieved by arranging the reading order The effect of gradual progress,or setting up a guide,helps readers to determine whether the content of the reading is in line with their own reading interests,and whether the difficulty of the content is consistent with their own language level.By analyzing the published excellent second-language graded readings,the author gains valuable writing experience and makes the writing plan proposed in this article more scientific.In order to make the readings more targeted,the author analyzed the ability requirements of YCT and the characteristics of child readers,and on this basis,proposed the compilation plan of YCT Graded Chinese Readings.The plan proposes that according to the ability requirements of the YCT syllabus,the " YCT Graded Chinese Readings will be divided into four levels.In terms of writing styles,the writing styles of the first and second levels are the same,and the writing styles of the third and fourth levels are the same.The first and second level readings are equipped with a "Warm-up"section before the main text to help learners familiarize themselves with difficult and difficult vocabulary before reading;the third and fourth level readings are equipped with "Reading Prompts" before the main text to allow readers to read with questions,And set up a "Knowledge Card" section after the text to facilitate readers to review important grammar items.In terms of the subject matter selection,the difficulty of the text,and the type of test questions after the text,the author also made a targeted design according to the characteristics of the readings at each level.In order to more intuitively reflect the characteristics of each level and the design concept of reading materials,the author of each level has carried out the practice of reading materials,and compiled 3first-level reading materials,3 second-level reading materials,4 third-level reading materials and 3 fourth-level reading materials,A total of 13 volumes of YCT Graded Chinese Readings.After the reading material is written,the author understands the readers and teachers' reading experience of YCT Graded Chinese Readings through interviews.From the feedback of readers and teachers,and the author's writing practice,some enlightenments for the writing of graded reading materials for Chinese as a second language have been drawn: the writing of graded reading materials should be based on scientific grade standards,the choice of subject matter and genre should be diversified,and the content should be diversified.Pay attention to fun and meet the reader's interest in reading.
