In China's Education Modernization 2035,the State Council of China proposed to develop an advanced world standard education, focusing on enhancing the overall quality of students and growing their knowledge and insight. As an integrated education concept,STEAM is innovative, practical, and interdisciplinary. This concept focuses on the mastery of students' diversified expertise and the cultivation of comprehensive functional ability, and emphasizes stimulating students' interest in learning, which is a new academic concept that meets the needs of China's educational development and can provide some new ideas for China's educational reform work.At present, the theoretical research of STEAM concept in the United States,Finland, and other countries has become perfect. The construction of curriculum, teachers, and system is relatively mature, and the advantages have gradually emerged. The STEAM concept in China is still in the primary stage,Although there are cases of integrating STEAM into physics teaching, they involve fragmented contents and the lack of systematization.Combining the current development needs of science and technology education and the current situation of STEAM application in China,we should try to actively carry out relevant research and explore feasible solutions to systematically integrate STEAM concepts into junior high school physics teaching.Based on the above background,The researchers conducted a systematic study on the application of STEAM teaching in the chapter of "Phenomena of Light" in Luke's edition, hoping to provide new ideas for the design of STEAM teaching in junior high school physics in China. To achieve the purpose of this study, the following work was carried out.Firstly, the research analyzed the current STEAM concept in junior high school physics, and selected a suitable STEAM project design model and a specific teaching process that is easy for students to accept-The CHEESE rule.Secondly, concerning the selected project design model,we designed the STEAM project of this chapter-Building a secret garden of light. After completing the design,47 students in two parallel classes were taught the chapter of "Phenomena of Light" by STEAM project and traditional teaching practice. The teaching effects of the two classes were measured by chapter tests, student interviews, and questionnaires. Finally, the measurement results were analyzed, and conclusions were drawn. In practice, all groups completed the STEAM learning tasks and produced the physical model of the "Secret Garden of Light" project through intergroup cooperation. The results of the pre and post-test comparisons showed that the difference between the average scores of the two classes was slight, and further stratified comparisons revealed that students with scores between 60 and 90 on the first monthly exam showed the most significant improvement, with the average score increasing from76.36 to 79.37.It indicates that STEAM instruction was more helpful in improving the learning performance of intermediate-level students in physics.A comprehensive analysis of the survey results showed that systematic chapter physics instruction incorporating STEAM concepts effectively stimulated students' interest in learning physics and improved their overall practical skills, such as innovation and communication, needed in real-world problem-solving.In addition, students who experienced STEAM project-based learning were more diverse in their future career choices.
