As an important foundation for promoting harmonious social development and cultivating high-quality citizens,science literacy has been the central theme of international science education from the 1980 s to the present,and it is also the main line of science education curriculum reform in China at this stage.And "companion meanings",an important concept in the field of scientific literacy research,also deserves our attention and research.The development of elementary school science curriculum standards in China has a history of more than 100 years,and a historical study of the curriculum standards can also help to better implement the guiding role of curriculum standards in curriculum setting,textbook writing,and teaching implementation.The study uses a documentary research method,a content research method,and a theoretical approach.This study uses literature research,content analysis and comparative research methods to analyze and compare the evolution of companion meanings in China's primary school science curriculum standards and syllabuses.Firstly,the analysis scale for the study was designed by combining the science curriculum standards and related studies on companion meanings,classifying companion meanings into four dimensions:daily application,STSE,history of science,and scientific inquiry;Second,a summary analysis of the companion meanings dimensions in the goal text,content text and recommendation text in 19 elementary science curriculum standards and syllabuses was conducted,and the study found that companion meanings have evolved over the centuries of elementary science curriculum standards and syllabus: daily application goals have steadily developed in the goal text,STSE goals have emerged from nothing,history of science goals have not yet emerged,and science inquiry goals have been receiving attention.Diversified development of everyday application content in content text,science and technology and science and the environment in STSE content receiving attention,science history content setting in need of improvement,and standardized development of science inquiry content,everyday application suggestions presented by multiple aspects in recommendation text,integration of various sub-dimensions of STSE occurring,science history suggestions on the periphery,and science inquiry leading the recommendation text;Since then,the development of companion meanings in the century-old elementary school science curriculum standards and syllabus has been divided into four stages from a holistic research perspective,taking into account the political,social,and educational development and other historical contexts: 1903-1948:the initial emergence of companion meanings,1949-1976: the difficult exploration of Soviet as a teacher,1977-2000: innovative development under the influence of multiple educational theories,2001-present: the rise of scientific literacy and the gradual implementation of the concept of popular education.Finally,based on the study of the content of companion meanings in the century-old elementary school science curriculum standards and syllabus,in order to promote the effective application of companion meanings in the elementary school science curriculum,cultivate students' scientific literacy and better build China's elementary school science curriculum,several prospects are proposed: to combine the development of the times,to examine companion meanings from a historical perspective,and also to combine the traditional advantages with the achievements made in the new era,and to look at the world.Follow the characteristics of the subject,implement the companion meanings into the teaching materials,and strengthen the preparation of companion meanings in the teaching materials;teachers should strengthen the study of the standards,improve the awareness of the application of companion meanings,and better establish the connection between companion meanings and students' development.
