With the progress of the times and the development of the society,the practice of parenting has undergone tremendous changes.As talents and social capital of the country's future,children are highly valued,and parents are the most important force to guide child's learning and development.Studying the parenting of parents born in the 1970 s,1980s and 1990 s allow us to explore the development trajectory along the time tunnel,grasp the pattern of development,give necessary supports to parents,and relieve the pressure of parenting.Grounded on the Family System theory and Life Course theory,this study employed mixed methods to explore the parenting of parents born in three different decades.Semi-structured interviews were used to conduct in-depth interviews with 23 parents from different age groups(7 born in the 70s;8 born in the 80s;8 born in the90s);using the questionnaire survey method,467 valid questionnaires were obtained mainly from Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province.Through the analysis of interviews and questionnaires,the research results are summarized as follows:This study restored the parenting life of parents.Through the inspection of the daily life of parents born in three different ages,five types of parenting affairs are summarized: material support,daily care,caring companionship,education guidance and game interaction.It was also found that the parenting affairs of parents are influenced by the age of the child(0-1 years old;1-3 years old;3-6 years old).According to the family members' commitment to different parenting affairs,three modes of family labor division are classified: "Parents dominate and grandparents hardly participate","Parents dominate,grandparents help",and "Grandparents dominate,parents help".This study also generalized the shared features of parenting of these three groups of parents.The first is the gender role of parents,which is mainly reflected in the parents' stereotype of gender roles and the division of labor mode of "male dominates the outside and women dominate the inside".The second is the emotional experience of parents,which mainly includes the classification,characteristics and influences.The third is the perception of parental status,which mainly discusses the positive and negative effects of parenting.The difference characteristics of parenting of these three groups of parents were compared and analyzed.One is the change in the role of parents.The role of mother gradually moved from family to the society,and began to seek their own value status;The role of father changed from "absentee" to "co-parent",and gradually attached importance to the emotional function of the father's role.The second is the changes in parenting participants,which is mainly reflected in the increase of fathers' enthusiasm,the gradual intensification of grandparents' participation,and the gradual influx of social forces.The third is the change of parenting concept: the expectation of parents for their children has changed from "being a talented person" to "being a good person",familialism gradually weakened,children gradually exist independently of their parents.The fourth is the change of parenting dilemma.This study summarized the different parenting dilemmas of these three groups of parents.In addition,this research further analyzed the factors that affect parenting from the point of society,family,parents and children,and puts forward strategies and suggestions to supporting the growth of parents based on the sides of family and society.Finally,the limitations and implications of this study were discussed.
