A Study On The Status Quo Of Preschool Teachers' Observation Work

As an important way for preschool teachers to understand children,to know children and build a harmonious relationship with children,observation is the origin and foundation for preschool teachers to carry out all education work.In order to improve the quality of education,Curriculum Gamification Project in Jiangsu Province takes observation as the first starting point,and puts forward practical requirements for the development of preschool teachers' education.Under the dual drive of external work requirements and internal work needs,preschool teachers carry out observation work in practice.At present,domestic studies related to observation of teachers is decentralized,the research of the overall development of observation work itself in the kindergarten is still the weakness,the research of preschool teachers' observation work will help to enrich the theory of teacher education,and play a positive role in children's development,preschool teacher's professional development,and the effective work of the kindergarten in practice.In this study,a qualitative research method was adopted to interview 21 preschool teachers and 3 teaching principals in two Curriculum Gamification Project kindergartens in M,as well as a district teaching and research staff in one of the kindergartens.A large number of text data related to observation work represented by observation records as well as teaching and research materials was collected and analyzed.The results show that:1.Summing up the characteristics of preschool teachers' understanding of observation work as well as their external requirements and internal needs,it is found that preschool teachers' understanding of the purpose and value of observation work lay emphasis on understanding children and supporting children's development;Most of the suggestions on observation from kindergarten are aimed at the improvement of observation concept;Preschool teachers take the external requirements of observation work as a single and a large number of writing work;The internal work needs of preschool teachers for observation work are mainly reflected in three aspects:supporting children's development,developing curriculum and keeping family-kindergarten communication.2.Analyzing the characteristics of the implementation process of observation work,it is found that preschool teachers refer to a lot of background information related to children and teachers when describing observation stories;Most of the content of observation records occurred in the free space and time of the regional activities;Preschool teachers tend to write observation records in the form of scene description and positive transmission,and seldom deny and stop children's behavior in the observation process;Preschool teachers lays emphasis on random observation and starts more from the response to children's appeals;Preschool teachers pay more attention to the social development of children and tend to record the interactive scenes between children;Preschool teachers tend to pay more attention to "outstanding" and "changed" children;Preschool teachers mainly rely on the Guide when analyzing children's behaviors,but different teachers have different views on the Guide;Most of preschool teachers' evaluation of children is directed to the evaluation of children's development level;In the follow-up observation,preschool teachers tend to provide targeted educational support for children through activities and continuous attention;Preschool teachers seldom reflect on themselves after the observation work.3.Explaining the achievements,shortcomings and practical difficulties of preschool teachers' observation work,it is found that preschool teachers make great progress in observation concept,observation ability and observation-related practice.And there is still deficiency in focusing too much on children's development level,understanding very few of children's meaningful world,applying observation formally in the curriculum,preschool teachers' concept problems will affect the observation work of actual results and deliberate observation task will become the limitation of preschool teachers to carry out observation work effectively.In addition,preschool teachers still have a lot of confusion about the observation work,and still face the practical dilemma of insufficient time and unequal distribution of energy.Based on the results,the researchers put forward corresponding educational suggestions for the effective development of preschool teachers' observation work from two aspects: preschool teachers should pay attention to the construction of their own concept,and managers of kindergartens should support teachers' observation work suitably.
