The unified middle school Chinese textbook distinguishes self-reading texts from taught reading texts, and attaches importance to the construction of the three-in-one reading teaching system of taught reading ? self-reading ?extracurricular reading. In particular,self-reading texts play a great role in improving students' independent reading ability and accumulating language literacy. In the unified middle school language textbook, the arrangement of self-reading texts has changed a lot, among which the most significant changes are the self-reading text prompts. In this paper,we analyze the meaning and use of self-reading text prompts, analyze the current situation of the use of prompts, consider the strategy of using the clues in combination with teaching examples, and explore more effective teaching methods for self-reading texts. The first chapter of the thesis discusses the concept of prompting in self-reading texts, compares the development of prompting in language textbooks, summarizes the changes of prompting in new textbooks, divides prompting into side comments and reading prompts, summarizes the content, frequency and location of prompting, and summarizes the arrangement concept of prompting based on curriculum standards, focusing on practical needs and cognitive transfer, and supplements it with a comparison of different versions of prompting. The second chapter of the thesis focuses on the investigation of the significance of prompts in teaching self-reading texts, which is not only a grip for classroom teaching, but also a scaffold for independent learning and a bridge for extended reading. The importance of self-reading text prompts lies in the fact that they point to the cultivation of students' independent reading ability.Chapter 3 uses questionnaires to try to work out the actual use of the clues in self-reading texts and finds that there are still problems with the inappropriate use of prompts.Chapter 4 explores the strategies of using the clues, and the new needs for teaching self-reading texts emerge due to the changes in prompts. In this chapter,we combine the examples of self-reading texts and our own teaching practice to refine the strategies of using prompts from the examples. In conclusion, the use of prompts in teaching self-reading texts is significant because they point to reading outside the classroom and to the development of students' self-reading skills. Therefore, studying and exploring this thesis will help to truly implement the development of self-reading skills in the actual teaching of self-reading texts in the future.
