The course of morality and rule of law is an important course to shape the correct outlook on life and values of middle school students.It is also an important way to improve the quality of middle school students and cultivate their moral character and social responsibility.A new edition of the revised textbooks on morality and the rule of law for Grade 7 was released in 2016.The version follows the curriculum standards for compulsory education to promote all-round improvement of students' moral awareness and the spirit of the rule of law.A large number of illustrations are distributed in the form of modules in the morality and rule of law textbooks for seventh graders compiled by the Ministry of Education.They are rich in types and varied in styles,which is a highlight of the morality and rule of law textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education However,in the current PEP edition of the seventh grade morality and the rule of law textbook illustrations teaching,there are still insufficient theoretical guidance,low utilization rate,not enough attention to the situation,which is not conducive to the development of the seventh grade morality and the rule of law course.This paper takes the illustrations of the textbooks of morality and rule of law in the current PEP edition as the research object and adopts the method of qualitative analysis.Firstly,it introduces the research background,the significance of methods and the current research situation at home and abroad.Secondly,it elaborates the core concepts and theoretical basis,elaborates the concepts of morality and the rule of law,textbooks and textbook illustrations,and introduces the theories of moral cognition,visual culture and double coding.Thirdly,it expounds the characteristics and functions of illustrations in the textbooks of morality and rule of law for the seventh grade,from the perspective of numerous illustrations,diverse styles and rich ideas,and explains the functions of illustrations in textbooks from the perspective of teachers and students.Fourthly,it expounds the design and use principles of illustrations for the seventh grade morality and rule of law textbooks,discusses the principles of illustration design from the aspects of close to life,aesthetics,close to students' psychology and science,and puts forward the use principles to consolidate knowledge and stimulate interest.Fifthly,it introduces the use of illustrations in the seventh grade morality and rule of law textbooks,and analyzes the causes of the phenomenon.Finally,the author puts forward the use strategies of illustrations from three aspects: the change of teachers' educational ideas and strategies,the innovation of teaching design,and the development of school-based resources,which is expected to be helpful to the research of the textbooks on morality and rule of law for the seventh grade compiled by the Ministry of Education.
