The travel industry is facing severe tests due to its own fragility under the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the world. The decline of tourism revenue and job reduction will inevitably have a negative impact on the confidence of tourism practitioners, thereby reducing their professional identity and causing the loss of front-line employees and managers. However, the recovery and development of tourism is inseparable from the support of high-quality tourism talents.Undergraduate education has a core position in the training of tourism talents. Therefore, the professional quality and sense of identity of undergraduates majoring in tourism management determine the quality and stability of the future tourism talent team to a certain extent. The outbreak of the epidemic may affect their career choices and employment, resulting in a reduction in their professional identity and learning input. However, due to individual differences, students may be affected differently by the epidemic. As an inherent trait of human beings, mental toughness can adjust the impact of dangerous or protective factors in the external environment on individuals.Whether it will play a role in the impact of the epidemic on the professional identity and learning investment of undergraduates majoring in tourism management is no doubt.A question worth exploring.Based on the related theories of "identity-investment" and mental toughness, this paper compares and analyzes the differences in professional identity and learning investment of undergraduates majoring in tourism management before and after the outbreak of COVID-19.The degree of influence of each dimension of its professional identity and learning investment,to build a change path for professional identity and learning investment under the epidemic, and to deeply analyze the effect size of the mediator of psychological toughness, and to propose targeted intervention strategies based on the research results.Based on the theory of “identity-engagement” and psychological resilience, this paper constructs a theoretical model of the logical relationship between psychological resilience and the three main variables of professional identity and learning commitment under the epidemic, and proposes four types of research hypotheses:(1)The epidemic has a significant impact on the relationship between students’ professional identity and learning commitment. Each dimension of learning engagement has a significant negative impact;(2)Under the epidemic situation, students’ professional identity and learning engagement are significantly positively correlated;(3)Mental toughness is significantly positively correlated with students’ professional identification and learning engagement under the epidemic; The impact of the epidemic on the professional identity and learning investment of undergraduates majoring in tourism management plays a mediating role.On the basis of the above, this paper tests the correlation and mediation effect by constructing the structural equation model and the data analysis method of multiple linear regression. The research results show that the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic has a significant negative impact on the professional identity and learning investment of undergraduates majoring in tourism management;under the epidemic situation, the professional identity and learning investment of undergraduates majoring in tourism management are significantly positively correlated;the mediating variable of mental toughness It is significantly positively correlated with the professional identity and learning investment of undergraduates majoring in tourism management under the epidemic situation.Mental resilience significantly predicts the cognitive, emotional and behavioral dimensions of students’ professional identity and learning commitment, and plays a role in the impact of the epidemic on their professional identity and learning commitment.Partial mediation. It can be seen that psychological resilience has alleviated the negative impact of the epidemic on students to a certain extent.Based on the above conclusions and related theories, this paper proposes strategies such as infiltrating industry information in teaching and enhancing students’ confidence in the profession,so as to improve students’ psychological resilience, etc.to alleviate the negative impact of the epidemic on their professional identity and learning investment. This is in the era of normalization of epidemic prevention and control.has important practical significance.
