Interpersonal Relationships And Internet Addiction Among High School Students: A Moderated Mediation Mode

With the development of technology and the popularization of online courses,the Internet has become a major communication platform and entertainment tool for adolescents,and with it,the phenomenon of Internet addiction has become increasingly serious.Through the analysis of existing studies,students with disturbed interpersonal relationships in real life will be accompanied by symptoms of depression and social anxiety,and in order to alleviate the above symptoms,they may tend to turn to the Internet to get away from real life,thus creating the tendency of Internet addiction.This study investigated the impact of interpersonal relationships on students’ internet dependence,and explored the internal mechanism of action using depression and social anxiety as mediating variables.This study used the Young Internet Addiction Test Scale,the Comprehensive Interpersonal Relationships Diagnostic Scale,the Interaction Anxiety Scale,and the PHQ-9 Patient Health Questionnaire as measurement instruments,and conducted a questionnaire survey with 1088 high school freshmen and sophomores in Tianjin,Hebei Province,and Fujian Province,of which 533(49%)were male students and 555(51%)were female students.The results of the study were as follows.(1)Depression and social anxiety play parallel mediating roles between interpersonal relationships and Internet addiction,both of which are partially mediated.Specifically,depression fully mediated the relationship between tolerance and time management in interpersonal relationships,heterosexual interactions,and Internet addiction and depression partially mediate this relationship between tolerance and time management in interpersonal relationships,communication activities,and Internet addiction;social anxiety fully mediated the relationship between tolerance and time management in interpersonal relationships,interpersonal conversations,and interpersonal relationships,and Internet addiction,and social anxiety partially mediated the relationship between tolerance and time management in anxiety in human society plays a meaningful mediating role in the relationship between learning and health issues,and social anxiety plays a partial mediating role in this relationship between interpersonal talking and treating in interpersonal relationships and compulsivity and emergent,withdrawal responses in Internet addiction.(2)The moderating effect of gender on the mediating effect: In the pathway of interpersonal relationships influencing Internet addiction through depression,depression in girls played a fully mediating role in the relationship between communication activities in interpersonal relationships and tolerance and time management in Internet addiction,and give full play to the intermediary role in communication activities in interpersonal relationships and withdrawal reactions in Internet addiction;depression in boys played a mediating role was not significant.Conclusion: Interpersonal relationships affect Internet addiction in high school students through anxiety and depression,specifically: for girls,communication activities in interpersonal relationships affect tolerance and time management and withdrawal response in Internet addiction through depression,and interpersonal conversation and treatment in interpersonal relationships affect the four dimensions of Internet addiction through social anxiety;for boys,interpersonal conversation and treatment in interpersonal relationships affect the four dimensions of Internet addiction only through social anxiety.Social anxiety affects the four dimensions of Internet addiction.Significance: By studying the interpersonal mediating role of anxiety and depression in Internet addiction,as well as the neutral regulatory role in this mediating role,this paper provides empirical support for understanding the influencing factors of Internet addiction among high school students and the intrinsic relationship between the factors.On the practical side,it helps schools to enhance the improvement of students’ interpersonal relationships and pay attention to adverse emotional problems such as social anxiety and depression,which in turn alleviate the degree of Internet addiction.
