Textbook reform is an important part of curriculum reform,which is of great significance for improving teaching quality,promoting teachers’ professional development and cultivating students’ abilities.By comparing geography textbooks from different countries and versions,we can find the similarities and differences between the textbooks,and provide experience for the compilation and improvement of geography textbooks in our country,which has become an important way to promote the research and reform of textbooks.Geography education in Britain has a long history,and its qualification examination is recognized by most countries and regions.This paper selects the compulsory one and the optional compulsory one of the senior high school geography textbooks of the Chinese People’s Education Edition and the AQA A-Level physical geography textbook of Oxford Press as the object of comparative research,in order to provide reference for the development and improvement of Geography Textbooks in China.Using the methods of text analysis,literature research and comparative research,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the Chinese and British geography curriculum and the high school geography curriculum objectives as a whole,and explains the differences between the two countries in the continuity of geography curriculum,curriculum status and curriculum objectives.This paper compares and analyzes the natural geography content of Chinese and English geography textbooks from three parts: column framework,content selection and organization and surface system,and provides improvement suggestions for the compilation of Senior high school geography textbooks in China.First,in terms of column frame structure,it is found that China’s people’s Education Edition geography textbooks lack columns with learning objectives and examination oriented guidance.Textbooks should clarify the learning objectives and provide a clear direction for students’ learning;Increase the function of examination guidance and reasonably arrange learning tasks;Add the content of review summary,change the form of knowledge summary,add the column of knowledge summary after the content of each section,and sort out the important knowledge points of this section in the form of knowledge structure chart.Second,in terms of content selection and organization,it is found that there are deficiencies in the use of cases and the integration of interdisciplinary knowledge in the geography textbooks of the people’s education edition of China.We should improve the presentation form of textbook cases,expand and process the cases,and promote their deep integration with the content of the text;Integrate interdisciplinary knowledge,promote students’ understanding and application of geographical knowledge and improve the comprehensiveness of teaching materials with the help of relevant subject knowledge content and analysis methods.Third,in terms of surface system,in the text system,the geography textbook of China People’s Education Edition needs to be improved in the expression of regional thought,language expression and content summary;Explanatory language or cases can be used to increase the readability of the textbook,and regional scale thinking can be appropriately introduced for arrangement.In the image system,the image expressiveness of Geography Textbooks in the people’s education edition of China is weak;The layout and design of geographical images can be enhanced by adding picture text annotation,using combination map,graphic conversion and so on.In the activity system,the exercise activities in the geography textbook of the people’s education edition of China are low in difficulty and lack of hierarchy;The exercises can be designed in layers,unit exercises can be added,students’ information acquisition channels can be expanded,experimental links can be added,and practical geography assignments can be supplemented.Develop students’ geographic practice ability.
