The large-scale population flow in China since the Reform and Opening-up,especially the young and strong labor resources flowing from rural to urban areas, has provided for the development of industrialization and high economic growth, and also promoted the continuous improvement of urbanization level. However,in recent years,as China enters the post-industrialization stage of industrial restructuring and the comprehensive implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, the labor force mobility has shown new characteristics, not only the growth of the mobile population has slowed down, but also the return flow of labor from urban to rural areas has gradually increased.Although there are abundant studies on labor mobility, the research literature on labor force return is relatively limited, mainly focusing on the influencing factors of labor force return and the impact of outworking experience on the return labor force. This paper takes the income of rural residents as an entry point to observe whether there is an income gap between rural returning laborers and those who stay in villages, and then studies whether the experience of going out to return to work has an impact on the income of rural residents. On this basis,we analyze the mechanism of the impact of return-to-work experience on rural residents' income through theoretical and empirical evidence, and verify the mediating effect of employment choice.Based on the 2017 China Household Finance Survey data, this paper conducts an empirical analysis using the propensity score matching method to explore the impact of outbound return experience on rural residents' income.Meanwhile,a mediating effect model is used to investigate the mechanism of employment choice in the relationship between outbound return experience and rural residents' income. In addition, heterogeneity analysis is conducted according to gender, migrant worker type, region, and income class, and robustness tests are conducted by replacing explanatory variables and replacing the CFPS database. Finally,in order to further investigate whether the outgoing return experience has an effect on the income of rural nonfarm residents. This paper draws the following conclusions from empirical evidence:(1)There is a positive and significant effect of outbound return experience on rural residents' income;(2)There is a positive and significant effect of outbound return experience on non-farm employment;(3)There is a positive and significant effect of non-farm employment on rural residents' income;(4)There is a full mediating effect of employment choice between outbound return experience and rural residents' income.(5)There is no effect relationship between outgoing return experience and rural nonfarm residents' income.Based on the above findings, this paper proposes policy recommendations for effectively guiding and utilizing returning labor to build their hometowns and realize rural revitalization in the context of the rapidly expanding scale of returning labor, including the government's strengthening of guiding returning rural outgoing labor, improving rural infrastructure construction, increasing support for local rural enterprises, paying attention to agricultural development in rural areas, and redistribution to narrow rural residents' The policy recommendations include the government's strengthening of guiding the return of rural laborers, improving rural infrastructure construction, increasing support for local rural enterprises, focusing on agricultural development in rural areas, and redistribution to narrow the income gap of rural residents.
