| By the continued efforts being made to advance the cause of fundamental education curriculum reform,the concept of biology curricular resource was first put forward in the curriculum biology standard for full-time compulsory education which requires the senior high school biology teachers to actively develop and utilize all the resources that are advantageous for the curriculum implementation.It has become a new direction for the contemplation of many scholars on the development of local curricular resources that are suitable for local education and the adaptation of unified compiled teaching materials in different regions during the advancement of national unified compiled teaching materials.Located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,the city of Baotou which is an important industrial city in the northwest area of China provides a vast space for the development of local curricular resources on high school biology for its unique geographical features,biological resources and cultures and customs.I have conducted research on how to effectively apply the local curricular resources to the teaching practice of biology in Baotou Firstly,I investigated the development and utilization of teachers and students in Baotou City for the local curricular resources on high school biology.This investigation was conducted on two aspects.The first aspect was to learn the basic information of senior high school biology teachers at different school ages and their cognition,identification,utilization,and challenges through the sampling survey on the 325 first-line biology teachers in 38 senior high schools of the city.The result indicates that: the frequency of use by the senior high school biology teachers for the local curricular resources in Baotou is extremely low,their recognition rate on the invisible curricular resources is only one third of that on the visible curricular resources,the challenge faced by almost ninety percent of teachers is their inability to utilize an effective method for the sorting of local curricular resources.The second aspect was to learn the study condition of students at different grades,their knowledge to the local biological resources,their application of the local curricular resources and their willingness for the participation of development through the questionnaire for 445 senior high school students from Baogang No.1 High School in Baotou City.In the meantime,I divided the students of class 3 in grade two of the senior high school into three levels which are first-rate student,average student,and less advanced student and randomly selected one student from the three levels for the interview survey.The result indicates that: most of the students poorly understand the biological resources in Baotou City.There is a great gap between the actual situation of development and utilization and the students’ demand.The use frequency is different for the curricular resources of different types in class which are campus resources,natural resources,cultures and customs and social resources in the sequence from high to low.Secondly,I put forward the 6 basic principles,5 basic strategies,and 4 basic procedures for the development of local curricular resources on high school biology.Through the initial investigation and sorting for the biological resources in Baotou City,I selected 47 course contents in the required courses(16 required course one,10 required course two,21 required course three)that are suitable for the combination with the local curricular resources and suggested the 16 elective course contents(7 in the class of real life application,5 in the class of career planning and prospects,4 in the class of fundamentals for academic development)that are suitable for the combination with the local curricular resources with the corresponding applications for the related course contents.I have created a Wechat public account named “Curriculum Resource Bank for High School Biology in Baotou City” through the investigation and analysis at the early stage for the initial exploration of establishing the curriculum resource bank for high school biology in Baotou City.More than ten articles have been pushed for notification with the production of 3 videos for interviews and the shooting of hundreds of pictures by now as the start of construction work for the electronic information of local curricular resources in Baotou City.Lastly,I put forward the case design strategy combined with local curriculum resources: including(1)core literacy is the purpose of design;(2)Stimulating interest with emotion is the core of design;(3)Paying attention to differences is the concept of design;(4)Resource integration is the means of design.I designed and implemented 4teaching cases on high school biology based on the four curricular resources which are campus resources,natural resources,social resources,and cultures and customs for the research-based teaching activities with the integration of the developed local curricular resources.Based on the analysis,practice,feedback,and effect of different cases,I have compared and analyzed the transformation of students on the aspects of learning interest,learning capability,and basic attitudes before and after the implementation of the case in the form of questionnaire and interview.It is discovered in the research that: the effective use of local curricular resources on high school biology may greatly stimulates the learning interest of students,improve the learning capability of students for self-study,exploration,and expression,enhance the influence of local culture among student groups for the positive influence on the personality development of students.The study on local content which used to be blank is supplemented by this research with the improvement for the status of partial teaching contents being separated from students’ learning condition in Baotou City.I suggest the teachers accept this mode with long-term vision for development by persisting on the effective exploration for the local curricular resources on high school biology in Baotou City and use it with flexible adjustment with the integration of the teaching materials and students’ characteristics so that the local curricular resources in Baotou City can be further developed.I proposed to expand the capacity of samples,further substantiate the content of local curriculum resource bank in Baotou City and try more types of courses for the next step to conduct targeted research on the imperfect parts of this article. |
