In accordance with the Biology Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017 edition),teachers should focus on the Core Qualities during teaching.Life concept highly embodies the value of biology teaching as it is the most deeply permeated concept in daily teaching.Under the traditional teaching mode,teachers always occupy the most time of the class.Students just recite what teachers emphasized again and again for the test,because they think they can get high scores just by reciting.The students are lack of a clear streamline and sufficient ability in relation to their biology study,which might be harmful to form their life concept.Unit teaching is a teaching mode based on learning completeness,logic and assessment.Thus,the unit teaching is of avail to develop the students' Core Qualities.In this paper,life concept was regarded as the target of unit teaching,and hence,as the basis of teaching mode.The purpose of this paper was to research whether the unit teaching could be more helpful for forming the life concept while improving teaching effects and scores for the students.Therefore,this paper mainly focused on the following two aspects.(1)Through literature review,the author summarized the recent research advancement of unit teaching and life concept teaching.Then,the research was carried out from two aspects,i.e.teachers and students,by using questionnaires.In this study,there were 117 students to be surveyed.The survey included three dimensionalities: the way of understanding life concept,the level of life concept,and the application of life concept.Moreover,there were 42 teachers to be surveyed.The survey included three levels as well,including the understanding and developing of unit teaching,the attitude toward unit teaching and life concept teaching.Through analysis of the survey results,the paper laid a foundation for the unit teaching design,teaching strategy,teaching evaluation based on the life concept.(2)The author summarized the topics of the textbooks that could be used as unit teaching,then carried out the unit teaching design in order to cultivate the life concept.Four identical classes were selected to conduct the experiment.The scores of students under traditional teaching and unit teaching were compared.The SPSS software was used to analyze the data of students' scores for the pre-test and the post-test.Then the main conclusions were as follows:(1)The basic idea of life concept was pretty good for the students,who showed strong interest in learning.But as for the deep application,there were still a lot of problems.Teachers who participated in the questionnaire generally agreed that unit teaching promoted the formation of life concept of the students.They had deep thought and strong will to carry out unit teaching,including design of unit teaching,combining with the life concept and teaching evaluation.But under the existing teaching environment,the specific practice of unit teaching was less.(2)Through comparing the results of the unit teaching between control and unit teaching group,the students' scores under unit teaching were better than that of the students under the traditional teaching.In the review period,the students' scores in the unit teaching experiment group improved more significantly.It showed that unit teaching improved students' ability of life concept and got better teaching effectiveness.It also exhibited that the use of unit teaching in the review period could effectively improve students' ability.This study provided a specific reference on how to adopt unit teaching in different teaching periods.In a word,unit teaching had a better effect on the life concept teaching compared with traditional teaching.Therefore,this study had a practical significance and value for implementing the teaching requirements of Core Qualities.It was a useful exploration for biology teaching in junior high school.
