| The focus of attention and research in China and the rest of the world has shifted to reducing carbon emissions and eventually achieving net zero emissions.According to available data,industrial energy consumption is the main cause of carbon emissions,and China has ranked first globally in terms of carbon dioxide emissions during the previous ten years.Hence,increasing industrial energy efficiency will aid in lowering emissions.The Yangtze River Economic Belt must increase industrial energy utilization efficiency to meet the target of "double carbon," as it is China’s primary energy consumption region.Therefore,it is realistic and urgent to calculate the Yangtze River Economic Belt’s industrial energy efficiency while taking carbon emissions into account,and to analyze the space-time characteristics and influencing factors of industrial energy efficiency.This analysis can serve as a foundation and a reference for China’s industrial energy conservation and emission reduction efforts.The secret to measuring efficiency is to compare DMUs horizontally and vertically while fairly ranking them.In order to achieve a more reasonable ranking of decision making units and solve the problem of efficiency incompatibility caused by frontier heterogeneity,this paper introduces virtual frontier technology into the window DEA model,ingeniously creates a threestage Window-DEA model based on the virtual frontier,and applies it to the measurement of industrial energy efficiency,calculates the actual industrial energy efficiency of 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Ecosystem,and addresses the issue that the efficiency is not comparable across periods as a result of the heterogeneity of the frontier.The main research contents of this paper are as follows:(1)The efficiency values based on the best and worst fronts are thoroughly analyzed by utilizing TOPSIS sorting thinking to determine the efficiency of each DMU in each window period.This is done by building a three-stage Window-DEA model based on the virtual front.The final efficiency result of the DMU is calculated as the average of the efficiency results of the same DMU during several window periods.SFA regression removes the influence of random errors and environmental factors,allowing for the true industrial energy efficiency of11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt to be determined.(2)The paper analyzes the global and local change characteristics and spatial correlation of industrial energy efficiency from two aspects of temporal evolution and spatial evolution based on the measurement results of industrial energy efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt using Malmquist index model,kernel density estimation,clustering analysis and ESDA method;The Tobit regression model is built to effectively test the impact degree and direction of energy structure,openness,innovation level,industrial structure,and economic development on industrial energy efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt using the results of the three-stage industrial energy efficiency measurement as the dependent variable.The empirical results are as follows:(1)According to the findings of the SFA analysis,improving level of openness is conducive to reducing redundancy of capital input,while environmental regulation and scientific and technology innovation are most conducive to doing so.(2)The Yangtze River Economic Belt’s 11 provinces and cities’ industrial energy efficiency was measured in three stages,and the results reveal a clear hierarchical phenomenon in each province’s and city’s industrial energy efficiency from 2010 to 2020.(3)The findings of the study on the spatiotemporal differentiation of industrial energy efficiency demonstrate that,overall,industrial energy efficiency exhibits a trend of first rising and then declining in time,and that technological advancement is the primary factor increasing industrial energy total factor productivity;The local industrial energy efficiency exhibits the same clustering characteristics as the clustering results,which are primarily seen in the high clustering of the downstream provinces and cities and the low clustering of the upstream provinces and cities.The overall spatial correlation has a downward trend in space.(4)The research results of the factors affecting industrial energy efficiency show that the improvement of industrial energy efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt needs to adjust the existing energy structure and reduce the proportion of coal consumption;Economically,we should pay attention to regional economic development;In the adjustment of industrial structure,while increasing the proportion of the tertiary industry,we should also pay attention to the transformation of the original production mode of the secondary industry;In terms of technological innovation,we should pay attention to the quality of innovation.On this basis,the effective ways to improve industrial energy efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt are put forward: first,to promote technological progress and improve the quality of innovation;Second,optimize the industrial structure and realize transformation and upgrading;Third,regulate environmental regulations and promote economic development;Fourth,strengthen regional linkage and promote resource sharing;Fifth,adjust the energy structure and develop clean energy. |
