With the high density and rapid urbanization of urban population,on the one hand, the limited land resources are trying to cope with the continuous expansion of the city, and the urban green space and natural environment are decreasing. On the other hand, the high pressure,fast-paced lifestyle causes chronic diseases and mental diseases, which is becoming increasingly serious, and people are facing great challenges of physical and mental health.Relevant research has confirmed that when the environment has certain positive characteristics,it can provide the human body with restorative experience to alleviate fatigue, generate positive emotions and promote physical and mental health. Therefore, the modern residents urgently need to seek the green public space with restorative effect in the limited urban space,so as to relieve the daily pressure, reduce the negative emotions and maintain the health. As an urban public open space, historical and cultural district has become one of the places for public daily entertainment and rest because of its unique geographical location, rich and diverse green space and highly representative historical and cultural characteristics. How to improve the landscape environment of the district and provide space for the recovery of the public’s physical and mental health has become a challenge of a new era.Combining the historical and cultural districts with the restorative environment,it is of positive significance to study the differences of various landscape spaces in the districts that affect the recovery of urban residents’ physical and mental health,so as to improve the living environment, optimize the quality of life, and improve the public health index. From the perspective of the recovery of physical and mental health of urban residents, this study takes Fuzhou Three Lanes and Seven Alleys historical and cultural district as the research object, using the concept of restorative environment and its related theoretical basis.11 typical landscape spaces with different landscape characteristics are selected in the historical and cultural districts. From three aspects of attention level, subjective psychological perception evaluation and objective physiological index measurement, many researches are carried out on the landscape restorative effect of the historical and cultural districts: first, different landscape types affect the difference of human psychological recovery perception;second: different landscape types affect human physiological recovery Third, the relationship between students’ psychological recovery and environmental preference. In order to provide support for the future district space optimization, this paper explores the principles and Strategies of restoring environment space optimization of historical and cultural districts. The main research results are as follows: first, taking part in walking activities for a certain time helps to improve the level of human attention and anti-interference ability;second, different types of landscape space in the historical and cultural districts have different effects on the recovery of human attention, electromyography, skin electric and pulse changes, while skin temperature has no significant difference.Among them, the traditional garden landscape has the best effect in improving the level of attention, psychological perception recovery, physical and mental relaxation, followed by street green space, square landscape and space in the square. The rest space on the main street of the district generally has less impact on the physical and mental health of human body than the above green space, while the narrow lane space of the district is the landscape type with poor recovery effect;thirdly,by mining the landscape space elements with high-efficiency recovery effect,we can know that the environment rich in plants,Water, historical culture and other elements is charming and makes people feel escape,so as to improve the environment The restorative effect of environment.Fourthly, there is a significant positive correlation between environmental preference and psychological perception recovery evaluation, and a significant negative correlation between environmental preference and physiological index electromyography. It is found that the mystery and complexity in the four dimensions of environmental preference have more significant influence on the evaluation of psychological perception recovery. In the future,in the aspect of restorative environment construction,it is suggested that all kinds of green public spaces in historical and cultural districts should enhance the green vision rate of the district environment and increase the opportunities for urban residents to contact with nature by increasing green and filling green. At the same time, the traditional history and culture in the district should be protected and utilized to enhance the charm and mystery of the landscape space so as to attract urban residents to enter and recover their physical and mental health. The historical and cultural district will be built into a new healthy place in the urban environment after the green space of urban park, community park, forest park and so on.
