There are many successful examples in landscape architecture design based on urban catalyst theory in foreign countries.The study and practice of the urban catalyst theory have been totally overlooked in our country for long period.Due to the rapid development of urban and rural construction,many industrial ruins and sites of the period before the reform and opening-up are facing the danger of ceaseless disappearing.Today with adjustment of industrial structure in many cities some railways are becoming more and more abandoned.However,from the perspective of urban development,these ruins are part of the city’s history,which cannot be restored once destroyed.How to reasonably protect this part of the heritage,is the responsibility and mission of the urban planning designers,particularly being confronted with numerous problems in urban development.The research with analysing representative cases at home and abroad,attempt to explore the approach and strategies based on urban catalysts theory through the landscape design of abandoned railway site.Using 139 railway ruin in jinzhong city of Shanxi Province as the example,with applying urban catalyst theory,The research carried out 139 railway park project design,realized in protecting the industrial sites,and at the same time expanded the urban public green space with building urban green corridors,and realized the green catalysis of urban development.Through research of catalyst design theory and landscape design practice of Jinzhong 139 Railway Park project,this paper tries to provide effective measures and activation strategies of urban design projects to urban planners and designers,so as to realize the protection of urban historical sites and promote culture and economic development of the city.
