As an important part of urban transportation system, public transportation is favored by many people for its advantages of large distribution density, convenient economy, energy saving and environmental protection. With the rapid development of public transport and the increasing demand for passenger flow, the problem of traffic congestion and environmental pollution in major cities has been effectively solved. As the main body of public transport travel, commuters have a great impact on public transport travel. The choice of commuters with different attributes on various public transport travel modes has an important impact on public transport travel demand prediction, vehicle supply and scheduling, public transport management, etc. Therefore,it is necessary to study the behavior of choice of public transportation mode.As an important part of urban transportation, commuters’ choice has a great impact on the operation and management of public transportation. The commuters in Beijing are taken as the research object, uses questionnaire survey,non-aggregate modeling and structural equation modeling(SEM)to study commuters’ choice behavior of public transport mode. This thesis conducts a questionnaire survey with RP and SP to obtain the commuters’ personal qualities, travel characteristic attributes, and commuters’ travel attitude perception.Firstly, summarizing the influencing factors of commuters’ travel behavior preference. In terms of travel attitude perception, studying the logic relationship between latent variables of travelers’ comfort, convenience, rapidity, economy, environmental protection and preferential policies and travel preference.Furthermore, the structural equation models of subway and bus travel modes based on maximum utility theory, behavioral choice theory, and statistical analysis theory, the link between different latent variables and each latent variable on travel preference was examined.Secondly,by modifying the initial travel attitude perception structural equation model continuously, the subway and bus travel structural equation model and structural metric equation with better fitting results are obtained. Finally, the personal qualities and travel attributes of commuters’ are calibrated. At the same time, the fitting results of the measurement model were integrated into the Binary Logit model(SEM-Logit).Commuter groups are divided into short and medium distance travel groups and long distance travel groups according to travel time, and studying the influence of each variable on the choice of subway and bus travel mode respectively. The findings revealed that the SEM-BL model can accurately estimate the influence degree of each variable on subway and bus commuting mode, and the influence of each factor is different.By comparing the calculation results of subway and bus models,it can be found that the most important factors affecting subway travel preference are speed and comfort, while the most important factors affecting bus travel preference are economy and preferential policies. It can be seen from the study on the choice of travel modes of different distance travel groups that passengers for short and medium distance travel pay more attention to the convenience and rapidity of transport vehicles, while passengers for long distance travel pay more attention to the comfort and economy of transport vehicles. To sum up,the study of this thesis can help relevant departments better understand the commuting demand of Beijing, which is dominated by public transport, and improve the travel sharing rate of public transport.
