| Under the current international environment of weak global economic growth, governments the world over are taking the new energy development as a decisive move to drive industrial upgrading and contribute to economic sustainability, health and diversity. The alternation of new and old energy sources and the interweaving and superposition of factors such as major power competition, trade protectionism, geopolitical conflicts, and public health and security crises have made energy problems increasingly prominent. The 18 th National Congress held at the end of 2012 proposed for the first time "promoting energy consumption revolution".Energy issues have long been an official focus. In September 2020,China clearly put forward the "dual carbon" strategic goal. The achievement of this goal is to promote the energy revolution with energy structure transformation as the core content, and it needs to put forward strong reform requirements for the current energy consumption structure. Therefore, this paper focuses on new energy in line with the current backdrop and development trend, and analyzes the recent situation of new energy development in China, including industrial policies, consumption status and application status. In addition, this paper uses the 31-year data from 1990 to 2020 to identify the characteristic indicators affecting the growth of new energy consumption in China from four dimensions:economic benefits, technology level, social benefits and resource environment, taking the new energy consumption share as the research object.Based on gray correlation analysis and correlation analysis,we construct the index system of influencing factors of new energy consumption in China, and explore the long-and short-term relationships and causality between each influencing factor and the development of new energy in China based on ARDL-ECM boundary test method and Granger causality test method. The results of the empirical analysis show that there is a long-term covariance between new energy consumption and economic growth, industrial structure changes, new energy technology progress, new energy resource endowment and environmental pollution, and new energy technology progress and resource endowment are the key "booster" of China’s new energy consumption growth. In the short term, national economic growth, changes in industrial structure, new energy technology progress, and new energy resource endowments can promote the increase in new energy consumption, and carbon dioxide emissions can force new energy consumption. Moreover, there is a one-way Granger causality relationship between all factors and new energy consumption at different lags, except for industrial structure.Building a new energy technology innovation platform, better exerting strengths of new energy resource endowment, maintaining steady economy growth, improving the new energy price subsidy mechanism, and raising the lowcarbon awareness of the general public are crucial to ensuring the high-quality and steady development of new energy. |
