Entering the "14th Five-Year Plan" development stage,China’s economy will change from high-speed growth as its main feature to high-quality development as its core essence.Improving Total Factor Productivity(TFP)has become an important goal to achieve high-quality economic development in China.Since 1980 s,Information and Communication Technology(ICT)has been the most innovative universal technology, the core part of modern technology system and the major driving force of global economic growth in the 21 st century.ICT can penetrate into all stages of national economic operation, and its economic characteristics such as permeability and synergy play an important supporting role for ICT to promote TFP and boost high-quality economic development. In the process of penetration and integration,ICT,as an independent factor,is beneficial to cooperate with other factors, improve the efficiency of input and output, and then improve the TFP.At present,China’s economy has entered a new stage of development, and the deep integration of ICT with various industries of the national economy will be conducive to promoting the upgrading of traditional industries and the modernization of production chains, thereby enhancing TFP and promoting high-quality economic development. In view of the vigorous development of ICT and its application,as well as the realistic demand of improving TFP in China at present,it has become one of the important contemporary propositions to study the mechanism of ICT affecting TFP.Starting from the research on the influence of ICT on TFP,this thesis takes the panel data of 30 provinces(cities)in the four major regions of China from 2000 to 2020 as the research sample.Firstly, based on references and related theoretical foundations,it systematically combs the influence mechanism of ICT on TFP,and makes the following empirical research from three angles: global linear influence, nonlinear influence and spatial influence.Secondly, the development level of ICT is measured by entropy weight method with multi-index comprehensive evaluation method, and the TFP of each province and city is measured and analyzed by growth accounting method. Then, combined with the influence mechanism proposed in this thesis, the panel regression model is used to analyze the global linear influence effect of ICT on TFP.Furthermore, based on the threshold effect of ICT on TFP,this thesis applies the panel smooth transition regression model and introduces human capital as the threshold variable to study its nonlinear effect.Based on the spatial differences between ICT and TFP in various provinces and cities in China, the spatial spillover effect is studied by spatial econometric model, and the empirical analysis of the influencing mechanism is improved,so as to draw the research conclusion. In view of the differences in regional development, this thesis divides the sample into four regions: east, middle, west and northeast,so as to reasonably analyze the differences that affect the TFP of each region and put forward corresponding policy suggestions.Through the above empirical research, the conclusions of this thesis are as follows:1.China’s ICT and TFP development level are on the rise, but there are development differences between the eastern and central and western regions.2.ICT has a significant global linear impact on TFP,with good robustness and certain regional heterogeneity.3.The level of human capital as a threshold variable enables ICT to have a non-linear impact on total factor productivity, and the level of human capital is positively related to the degree of non-linear impact.4.The development level of ICT has a significant positive spatial effect on TFP.However, the spatial effects of variables such as education investment, scientific research investment, technological development and innovation, urbanization and opening to the outside world are different. Finally, this thesis gives some research suggestions: 1.Improve the infrastructure of ICT,and vigorously support the development of information and communication industry foundation.2.Increase investment in ICT research and development to stimulate the transformation and upgrading of technological products and production methods and improve the overall technological level of society.3.Adjust measures to local conditions, steadily push forward the reform of human capital, rely on the nonlinear influence effect of ICT,promote the structural transformation and upgrading of external development, and improve the TFP of various regions.4.Strengthen regional technical exchanges and mutual support, and increase financial support,so that all regions can develop and make progress together.
