Since the reform and opening up,the electric power industry has been the pillar industry of the national economy in China. With the constant deepening of system reforms and high-speed economic development in China,in recent years, the demand for electric power has increased and the contradiction between supply and demand has become increasingly obvious, which has different degrees of influence of economic development and social stability. To relieve the tension between supply and demand in the power industry effectively, the state has gradually accelerated the construction process of electrical power engineering, increased investment in power grid technology, new energy construction, and smart power grid, and provided a good market opportunity for enterprises in the electric power engineering industry. However, because of the strong impact of factors such as the transformation of economic development mode in China, the improvement of environmental awareness, and the adjustment of the power supply structure,in recent years, the growth of power demand has gradually slowed down. With the rapid promotion of the reform of the electric power system and the gradual implementation of "separating the main business from auxiliary services",the electric power engineering industry changed from a monopoly market to a competitive market and competitive enterprises in the industry emerged one after another. The regulation in the power industry is increasingly strict and the market competition increases, which poses great challenges to Group P.The group should urgently define how to adjust the development direction of the group and expand the development of new energy and renewable energy through strategy formulation by taking advantage of the rapid development of electric power in China. Therefore, the study of its competitive strategy is meaningful. This thesis studies the competitive strategy of the power engineering business of Group P by using the modern strategic management theory to provide suggestions on decision-making for it.First, this thesis extensively collects and studies the external environment of the enterprise by using the PEST analysis model and Michael Porter’s Five Forces Model and presents the key opportunities and threats faced by the enterprise currently. The statistics and analysis of the survey results of factors in the external factor evaluation matrix show that Group P may effectively use existing opportunities and avoid all types of risks or respond to the current challenges. On the other hand,by analyzing the internal resources and capabilities of the group, the strengths and weaknesses of the enterprise were deeply analyzed. And then, the key internal factor evaluation matrix was used for further research. It was found that the internal strengths of Group P were also slightly higher than the average level. And then, combined with the development objectives of Group P,this thesis uses SWOT matrix analysis and quantitative strategic matrix analysis to determine that Group P must use the differentiated competitive strategy and further studies the strategic implementation plan of Group P.They are differentiated segmented businesses, differentiated marketing, and differentiated services. Finally, the safeguard measures required to implement the differentiated competitive strategy were proposed.By studying the competitive strategy of Group P in the current environment,Group P can make a scientific and long-term competitive strategy from a higher and farther perspective to effectively respond to changes in the external environment. In the research in this thesis, the combination of practice and theory is focused on,so that Group P can figure out some problems in the environment and organization management more clearly and scientifically and guide its operating activities in a long period in the future.
