| Fengyang County,the hometown of emperors and kings,is one of the important nodal cities along the ancient Huaihe River basin,the ancient post road of Beijing and the modern Jinpu Railway.As a famous historical and cultural city at the provincial level in Anhui,it possesses historical heritage resources of extremely rich types and quantities with diversified characteristics that have undergone thousands of years of vicissitudes,and these rich heritage resources together constitute These rich heritage resources together constitute an important material space carrier that carries the cultural lineage of the city and the countryside.Since the opening of the Jinpu Railway,the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant was established in the Fengyang section of the Jinpu Railway under the active promotion of the Anglo American Tobacco Company.With the change of the times,the re-baking technique replaced the original leaf re-baking with the more efficient hanging rod re-baking,and the factory built a century ago was naturally no longer able to take on the production function and was abandoned.From the perspective of urban development,inappropriate use of industrial building heritage is a waste of resources,instead of large-scale demolition and reconstruction,the right way is to protect and utilize it.At present,domestic and foreign research on the protection and utilization of industrial building heritage has been comprehensive and in-depth from theory to practical cases,but Anhui Province has shown a large lag.The Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant in Fengyang County,Anhui Province,located along the Jinpu Railway,is the first re-roasting plant in Anhui Province,which witnessed the sprouting of the tobacco industry in Anhui and was one of the first three re-roasting plants in China,completed and put into operation in 1919,and has passed a century of journey so far.2017,the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant was selected as the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural relics protection units due to its distinctive architectural style and high historical value,and in 2021 Anhui Provincial People’s Government agreed to classify the former site of Mentaizi British American Tobacco Company as an industrial-type historic and cultural district of Anhui Province.Even so,there are still few studies on the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant,and the conservation and utilization work on it is only to demolish the severely damaged buildings and rebuild them in their original form using the raw materials under demolition;the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant is currently the epitome of most industrial architectural heritage in Anhui Province.Therefore,this paper takes the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant as an example and conducts a study of conservation and utilization strategies.The paper takes the industrial architectural heritage of the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Factory as the object of study and its conservation and utilization as the research content.By reviewing the research and literature related to the conservation and utilization of industrial architectural heritage at home and abroad,the latest research trends in the conservation and utilization of industrial architectural heritage are sorted out.We summarize and sort out the overview of Bengbu’s industrial architectural heritage from three aspects: the history of Bengbu’s industrial development,development influencing factors,and heritage characteristics.Through the entry point of Bengbu’s industrial architectural heritage regulations and Bengbu’s industrial architectural heritage conservation and utilization examples,we conclude the real dilemma of Bengbu’s modern industrial architectural heritage conservation and utilization.Through on-site research and data compilation of the industrial architectural heritage in the Mentaizi Tobacco Restoration and Baking Factory,we improved the basic information of the factory,sorted out the development history of the factory,explored the characteristics of the industrial architectural heritage built in different eras in the factory,established the value of the Mentaizi Tobacco Restoration and Baking Factory,and then conducted a public opinion survey in the form of a questionnaire,and concluded the dilemmas faced by the conservation and utilization of the factory.The paper will compile existing models of industrial architectural heritage conservation and utilization,and propose constructive strategies for conservation and utilization at three levels: the relationship with the town,the overall appearance of the factory,and the individual buildings,so as to provide reference for the conservation and utilization of industrial architectural heritage of tobacco type in China and other industrial architectural heritage in Bengbu.The research on the conservation and utilization of the industrial architectural heritage of the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant completes the urban character and historical heritage of Fengyang County and adds historical information to the sparsely studied tobacco-type industrial architectural heritage in China,and also provides a reference for the subsequent conservation and utilization of the Mentaizi Tobacco Re-baking Plant,as well as a reference for the industrial architectural heritage of Bengbu City.Figure [69] table [20] reference
