With the advent of the digital era characterized by digitization,networking and intelligence,digital technologies such as Building Information Modeling(BIM),Internet of Things and Big Data have shown an increasingly important role in enhancing the productivity of the construction industry and promoting quality and efficiency in the construction industry.“Digital construction” has become an important way to achieve digital and high-quality development in the construction industry.However,the effectiveness of digital technology has not reached the industry’s expectations.The reason is that the organizational inertia of traditional construction project organizations limits the effectiveness of digital technology in construction projects.Organizational capability is the essential characteristic of an organization and the fundamental basis of value creation.However the relationship between organizational capability and performance is extremely complex.Therefore,in the context of the new model of digital construction,it is of great significance to analyze the impact of construction project organizational capability on project performance and explore its influencing mechanism in order to smoothly improve the project performance goals.This study takes resource-based theory and dynamic capability theory as the theoretical basis.Firstly,by analyzing relevant literature,five dimensions of construction project organizational capability under the digital construction mode are summarized: information technology capability,innovation capability,collaborative capability,integrated management capability,and emergency management capability.Secondly,the theoretical model of the impact of each dimension of construction project organizational capability on project performance under the digital construction mode is constructed,and environmental turbulence is introduced as a moderating variable.Based on effective questionnaire data,the partial least squares structural equation model(PLS-SEM)is used to explore the “net effect” mechanism of the impact of construction project organizational capability on performance.Finally,fs QCA method is used to analyze the "combination effect" of each dimension of organizational capability on performance,and a configuration of high project performance is proposed,providing effective management enlightenment.It is found that the information technology capability,innovation capability,collaboration capability,integration management capability,and emergency management capability of construction project organizations in digital construction mode all have positive effects on project performance.Environmental turbulence only positively moderates the relationship between collaborative capability and project performance.There are four different combinations of the five dimensions of construction project organizational capability that can produce high project performance,which can be summarized into two configuration types: internally driven and technology-driven innovation.Based on these findings,this article proposes the following three management inspirations: Firstly,conform to the trend of digital construction development and accelerate the pace of digital technology application in construction projects.Secondly,targeted selection of development factors to improve the efficiency of organizational resources utilization.Thirdly,the combination of organizational capacity elements(dimensions)to achieve sustainable development of construction projects.
