With the accelerated urbanisation process,many urban construction problems have emerged.One of them is the inappropriate treatment of public activity spaces in the human environment,such as the spatial form of residential squares,which often results in spaces that are not attractive and interesting to people.Research has shown that people will only identify with and feel a sense of belonging to the space they live in if the scale and form of the space makes them feel comfortable.In the residential plaza space,the space that makes people feel comfortable depends to a certain extent on the size of the space’s sky view factor.This paper takes the urban residential plaza space as the main object of study,and takes as its focus the optimisation range and standard value of the sky view factor with certain reference significance.By studying the relationship between the sky view factor and the morphological indicators of the residential plaza,the paper finally concludes the spatial design suggestions and methods that can enhance the comfort of the urban space of the residents.Firstly,through a review of three aspects of domestic and international research on sky view factor,quantitative research on urban spatial morphology and the relationship between sky view factor and spatial morphology,clarifies the importance of sky view factor in improving the quality of the living environment and enhancing the comfort of residents.The research direction of this paper is thus determined.Next,a sample of typical settlements in Nanchang was selected and the sky view factor was measured.A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect the public’s evaluation of the spatial comfort of urban plazas under different sky view factor,and to derive the standard values for the evaluation of sky view factor and their optimisation.The four morphological indicators selected for the study were then identified as volume ratio,building density,square area and square compactness,and the distribution characteristics of the selected morphological indicators were summarised and collated.The correlation between the spatial form of residential plazas and the sky viewable area is initially analysed,and the two morphological indicators with stronger correlation are screened out,namely volume ratio and plaza area.By establishing a model of typical residential squares in Nanchang,the correlation between the volume ratio and square area of typical residential squares in Nanchang is further analysed,and the corresponding functional equations are fitted.Finally,the spatial morphological indicators of urban settlement squares are combined with the optimisation criteria values of sky view factor and analysed.The optimisation strategy for the spatial morphology of urban settlement squares in Nanchang is obtained:when people feel comfortable with the space of settlement squares or above,the comfort level should be scored≥3,the sky view factor should be≥0.74,the volume ratio of the settlement should be greater than 2.21,and the area of settlement squares should be greater than 3211m~2.This study provides informative comments and a scientific theoretical basis for the development of planning and design standards for urban residential plaza spaces.It provides a basis for the design of residential plaza spaces that are comfortable and attractive to residents.It is of great significance to add vitality to Nanchang city and enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of the city.
