As a pillar industry, the construction industry is booming, and the industrial revolution has stimulated the demand for compound engineering management talents in the market. How is the employer satisfaction with engineering management undergraduates trained by application-oriented university? Can it meet the needs of local employers? What factors affect employer satisfaction? Based on the concept of "Outcome based education",this study considers the undergraduates of Engineering Management Major from application-oriented universities as the "product" of high education institutes and regards the employers as the "customer" of purchasing high education institutes’ products. Then it studies what factors affect the satisfaction of employers and how to improve the employer satisfaction.Firstly, through literature review, this study combed the research status and theory of satisfaction in China and other countries and extracted the influencing factors and control variables of employer satisfaction, namely school image, employer expectation, employer perceived quality, employer perceived value and employer characteristics.Secondly, according to the literature review, this paper put forward the research hypothesis and the conceptual model of employer satisfaction with engineering management undergraduates from application-oriented universities.Then,362 employers who have employed engineering management undergraduates from application-oriented universities in the past five years were selected as the survey subjects, and 304 valid data were obtained through interviews and questionnaires. Finally,SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 statistical software were used for empirical data analysis, hypothesis testing, effect analysis and expectation--perceived quality IPA analysis. The results show that school image, employers’ expectation, employers’ perceived quality and employers’ perceived value have a positive effect on employers’ satisfaction,in which employers’ perceived quality and perceived value directly and positively affect employers’ satisfaction. The satisfaction of employers does not vary with the firm type or firm size but varies with the industry. The satisfaction of the construction industry is slightly lower than that of the non-construction industry.Social and environmental responsibility, lifelong learning and loyalty are the abilities and qualities that need to be improved. In order to improve the employ-ability of engineering management graduates and the satisfaction of employers, the application-oriented undergraduate university should cultivate digital information talents, continue to strengthen engineering practice education and strengthen engineering ethics for the future to improve the perceived quality of employers;Enterprises should optimize the cultural management system, and application-oriented undergraduate university should guide students to correct value orientation to improve the perceived value of employers;"Both hard and soft" to build a campus environment, provide accurate and intelligent employment services, and promote the collaborative development between schools and enterprises to improve the image of the school;Enterprises use scientific and technological innovation to promote development, and application-oriented undergraduate university enables industrial development to empower major construction to improve the expectations of employers. This paper evaluates the employment situation of engineering management undergraduates from application-oriented universities with the satisfaction of employers, and constructs a model of employer satisfaction, which enriches employment research and deepen the application of customer satisfaction theory. In addition, this study is a practical guidance for application-oriented undergraduates employment and professional talent training.
