After more than one hundred years of development and popularization, fuel car has brought great convenience to people’s life, but it has also brought environmental problems such as air pollution and energy shortage. At present, automobile enterprises all over the world are transforming and upgrading to new energy vehicles to save energy and reduce emissions.Japan is one of the largest automobile R&D,manufacturing, and sales countries.Japanese automobile enterprises have a long history,a large market share, and a good reputation in the fuel vehicle market. In terms of global auto sales in 2020,the veteran Japanese automaker Toyota ranked 2nd in the world, while Honda ranked 6th.Meanwhile,in the market of new energy vehicles,Japan takes a leading position in the sales and technology of hybrid vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. However, among the top 20 global electric vehicle sales list in 2021,only Toyota is a Japanese company, ranking 16th.In 2021,the global sales volume of Toyota’s electric vehicles was only 110,000,and its performance in the electric vehicle market continued to be sluggish. This phenomenon aroused the attention of scholars and media, and there emerged opinions that were pessimistic about Japan’s new energy vehicle industry. This thesis will take this phenomenon as a starting point and use the analytic hierarchy process to study whether Japan’s new energy vehicles have really lost industrial competitiveness, analyze the reasons for its promotion and restriction of industrial competitiveness, and obtain relevant enlightenment for the development of China’s new energy vehicle industry. After combing the relevant literature, this thesis finds that the market status of different models of new energy vehicles in Japan has the characteristics of greater differentiation through data visualization analysis of the market status of new energy vehicles. Therefore, this thesis uses the dimension of the Porter Diamond model to select 19 related indicators, builds an evaluation index system, and uses analytic hierarchy process to calculate the competitiveness of the new energy automobile industry, and compares with China, the United States,France, and Germany. Then, the extended PEST model is used to analyze the causes of the international competitiveness of Japanese new energy vehicles from a macro perspective. And the conclusion is that Japan still has leading competitiveness in the case of the large development gap in the new energy automobile industry, which is mainly due to Japan’s leading technical strength in scientific and technological innovation ability. However, the increasingly fierce international competition in the new energy vehicle industry and Japan’s weak domestic consumer market have brought challenges to the competitiveness of this industry in Japan. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of China’s new energy vehicle industry are summarized.China,as a big country in the production and marketing of new energy vehicles, has ranked at the forefront of the development of the world’s new energy vehicle industry, has development potential and competitive advantages, and still has great room for progress. This thesis also offers forward-looking suggestions for the development of China’s new energy vehicle industry.
