Research On The Optimization Of Outdoor Public Space Environment In Handan Residential Areas From A Child-Friendly Perspective

Children are the future of humanity and one of the vulnerable groups whose rights protection has become an important task for future urban construction.The outdoor public space in residential areas is a basic place where people engage in activities.Due to the limited range of children’s activities,most of their outdoor activities are carried out in outdoor public spaces,making the role of outdoor public space in residential areas for children’s development particularly important.In this context,exploring the inherent relationship between the outdoor public space environment in residential areas and children’s outdoor activities is particularly important.Based on the child friendly perspective,this study selected 12 typical residential areas in Handan City as research samples for field survey.Based on the questionnaire survey,this study summarized the current situation of outdoor public spaces in residential areas,as well as the types of children’s behavior activities and the characteristics of time and space distribution.Combining the realistic features of Handan City’s residential areas and children’s behavioral activity characteristics,a multiple linear regression analysis was used to construct a model of the impact of child-friendly outdoor public space environments in Handan City’s residential areas on children’s outdoor activities,which obtained outdoor environmental perception factors that significantly affect children’s outdoor activities.The key factors and reasons for producing these results were analyzed in detail,and child-friendly strategies for outdoor public spaces in Handan City’s residential areas were proposed.Research has found that there are many problems with the outdoor public spaces in residential areas in Handan city,including a lack of systematic planning,insufficient safety,insufficient interest,and defects in human-oriented design.Moreover,there are differences in outdoor activity characteristics and required space among children of different age groups.In addition,age differences significantly affect the duration of children’s outdoor activities;comfort has a significant positive impact on weekday activity duration;safety and accessibility factors have a significant positive impact on weekend outdoor activity duration;and comfort,safety,and accessibility factors all significantly affect the duration of children’s outdoor activities in a week.Based on the above research results,this study proposes six optimization strategies for supporting children’s outdoor activities in Handan City’s residential areas from the aspects of overall spatial layout,comfort,safety,accessibility,interest,and management mechanism optimization,providing a reference for child-friendly-oriented optimization of outdoor public spaces in residential areas.
