A Comparative Study On The Efficacy Of Compression Bandage With Elastic Bandage After Total Knee Arthroplasty

Objective: To investigate whether elastic bandage is used for local pressure bandaging after total knee arthroplasty,and its effect on postoperative knee joint circumference,early postoperative knee joint AKS score,postoperative blood loss and incidence of lower extremity deep venous thrombosis,and to explore the reasonable time of compression bandage with elastic bandage after TKA.Methods: A total of 163 patients who underwent TKA for the first time in Shengjing Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University from October 2020 to October 2022 and met the enrollment requirements were collected for a retrospective study.The patients were grouped according to whether they used elastic bandage compression bandage after operation,group A was the compression bandage group,and group B was the non-bandage group.Perioperative knee diameter,AKS score at early postoperative stage,perioperative total and implicit blood loss,and deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs were recorded in2 groups 1 day before surgery and 1,3,5,7 and 14 days after surgery,respectively.Results: The knee joint circumference,perioperative total blood loss,overt bleeding volume,and postoperative AKS score of the knee joint in the elastic bandage group were better than those in the non-compression bandage group,and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Conclusions: Early application of elastic bandage after TKA can effectively reduce the drainage of the knee joint after TKA,relieve the early swelling of the knee joint after TKA,improve the AKS score of the knee joint in the early postoperative period,and promote the patient to get out of bed as soon as possible.It is beneficial to improve the recovery of joint function of patients.Considering the factors that the use of elastic bandage pressure bandage after surgery will bring about a decrease in comfort,this article recommends that the time for elastic bandage pressure bandage after TKA is more suitable for 5-7 days.However,compression bandaging with elastic bandage did not show superiority in preventing deep venous thrombosis of lower extremities after TKA.
