Research On The Art Education Of Sichuan Dongfang Academy Of Art In The Early 20th Century

At the beginning of the twentieth century,Chinese art education struggled to seek development at the intersection of traditional culture and modern Western civilization.Mr.Cai Yuanpei’s "Education Independence Discussion" and "Replacement of Religion with Aesthetic Education" have profoundly influenced the improvement of national education.As the center of art and culture during the Republic of China,Shanghai attracted students from all over the country to study.A group of artists from the Bashu region tried to seek a breakthrough and change the dreary condition of art education in Sichuan,and they went to Shanghai to study one after another.They received new knowledge and educational ideas brought by modern art education in Shanghai,which broadened their artistic horizons.The study experience in Shanghai has laid a solid foundation for their future development of art education.In the spring of 1932,Duan Xugu and Feng Jianwu returned from their studies in Shanghai and established a private oriental art school in Chengdu with their friends.They created a set of their own teaching model,founded the school journal,applied for teaching ideas,promoted new cultural ideas,invited Huang Binhong to teach in Sichuan,and cultivated a group of outstanding artists.Sichuanese artists represented by Duan Xugu and Feng Jianwu have made due contributions to the construction of modern art education disciplines in Chengdu,and at the same time laid a solid foundation for the development of modern art in the southwest region.
