| With the rapid development of technologies,emergent E-commerce is flourishing around the world.Particularly,the cross-border E-commerce industry in China has a promising trend of development.Even though it is still in its infant phase,yet some relatively well-developed coastal cities in china are abundant in events alluding to the across-board E-commerce.Among those events,foreign experts will be invited as guest speakers to share their knowledge about online marketing.In the English-Chinese interpretation,interpreters have assumed a slew of roles during the process of taskundertaking.What roles do interpreters under the setting of the cross-border play and how are they different from those roles played in traditional industries?In this report,the present author,taking into account the features of the audience from the E-commerce industry,explored three major roles assumed by the interpreter during the process of performing the interpreting task.The present author carefully gleaned certain examples typifying the three major roles,which are language conduit,verbal mediator,and non-verbal communication facilitator,and gave an analysis for each example presented.Firstly,the author analyzed the equivalent rendition of specialized terms and the close rendition of metaphors as the interpreter played the role of language conduit.Secondly,when the interpreter played the role of a verbal mediator,the author gave an analysis at length on the two specific parts which are the substitution of unique items in the source language and the cultural mediator.Thirdly,the present author played the role of a non-verbal communication facilitator.In this part,the present author analyzed the body language of the interpreter who,in the meantime,took the position of a public speaker and also took a close view on the interaction between speaker and audience.By scrupulously analyzing those examples,the present author found that the roles of the interpreter have undergone some profound changes per the demands of the emergent market,which would be shown in detail in this report.And at the end of this report,the author gives some suggestions based on her undertaking of the onsite interpreting in the context of cross-border E-commerce,in the hope to provide practical experience to the future interpreting task. |
