A Report On The Simulated C-E CI Of Speech About Cross-Border E-commerce By Jack Ma

This practice report is based on the C-E consecutive interpreting simulation of the speech by Jack Ma on the 2014 Internet Conference on Cross-Border E-Commerce and Economic Globalization.This report points out problems of interpreting note-taking in the process of interpretation,and puts forward corresponding solutions.Exchanges between countries are getting closer and closer against the background of world multi-polarization and economic globalization.China's position in the world is gradually rising.Cooperation and exchanges between China and foreign countries in various fields,such as economy,culture,science and technology,and education,are also increasing gradually.So interpretation has become an important bridge of cultural communication.Interpretation is also a challenging task,which requires interpreters to have multiple skills of bilingualism,flexibility and good memory,especially note-taking.In many business meetings,two parties from different countries have to communicate through consecutive interpretation.And note-taking play an important role in consecutive interpreting.This report will discuss the problems in note-taking during the simulated on-site interpretation from several aspects and find out the appropriate solutions.The author analyzes pre-interpretation,on-site interpretation and post-interpretation,including the preparation of terminology,knowledge background,note symbols,emergency on the spot and the summary of post-interpretation.Through analyzing the interpreting note-taking,the author found the problems of the note-taking including misinterpretation,omission,tension and so on.These problems can be attributed to three aspects: information redundancy of note-taking;logic disorder;unbalanced effort distribution of listening discrimination and note-taking.The reasons for these three problems will be analyzed respectively.The reason of information redundancy is due to the problem of listening comprehension and note symbols,which results in that the author can not choose the effective information.Therefore,the training of listening and note symbols should be intensified.Logic disorder of note-taking is associated with note structure,which should be recorded by the longitudinal structure like inverted triangle.For effort distribution of listening and note-taking problem,the author referred to the application of Gile's Effort Model,and put forward more listening and less note-taking in the interpreting process.
