This paper is an English-Chinese practice report based on The Midnight Library,a novel written by the British writer Matt Haig. The main character,Nora Seed, decides to end her life after being fulling disappointed at life. She finally goes to a place called "Midnight Library".In the Midnight Library, she has chances to tried different versions of life.Nora is finally rescued in real life, finally understanding the meaning of life. The Midnight Library, boasting concise expressions and philosophical thoughts on life,is an excellent literary work, worth being translated and recommended to Chinese readers. At the linguistic level, words in the dialogues in the source text are brief;but at the same time a lot of long and complicated sentences are used to describe the environment and the characters’ inner activities;at the cultural level, the source text contains philosophical terms, proper nouns, etc.,which require the translator to have more analysis;at the communicative level, the dialogues of the source text and the use of abstract nouns enable readers to communicate and empathize with the text.Eco-translatology holds that translation is a process in which the translator adapts to the ecological environment of the original text and makes a range of adaptive selections. On basis of that, the translator adopts the theory of Ecotranslatology proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen to analyze the text, from the three dimensions of language, culture and communication to guide the translator to give a readable translation.Through specific cases, the translator adopts translation strategies such as the adoption of Chinese four-character phrases, extension, analysis of long and complicated sentences, annotations, and word conversion to make adaptive choices among the three dimensions. In conclusion, this translation report can effectively reflect the guidance of Eco-translatology in translation practice;at the same time,it is hoped that this conclusion can serve as references for the translation of other similar texts.
