A Translation Report On Charming Dongqian Lake (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of "Three-dimensional Transformation" In Eco-translatology

With the increasingly frequent international cultural interactions,more and more foreigners are keen to contact Chinese culture.The English translation of high-quality cultural promotion works is an important way to show the extensive and profound Chinese culture to the world.Charming Dongqian Lake is a comprehensive book that introduces the history,scenery,and folk culture of the Dongqian Lake.This translation practice report takes the introduction of eight villages around the lake in Charming Dongqian Lake as the research object.On the basis of selection and adaptation theory,guided by the three-dimensional transformation method,the most important translation method in Eco-translatology,this report discusses the adaptive selection and transformation made by the author from the linguistic dimension,cultural dimension,and communicative dimension to adapt the ecological environment of the source text and target text,and summarizes the translation methods and techniques adopted in the translation process.In the linguistic dimension,both literal translation and free translation are adopted,and translation techniques such as paraphrase,amplification,restructuring,combination,conversion,and repetition are mainly used at the lexical,syntactic,and discoursal level,so as to solve the problem caused by four-character phrases,compound sentences,and intrinsic logical relationship.In the cultural dimension,free translation is the main translation method for the translation of architectural terminologies,ancient poems,couplets,and folk customs,annotation,amplification,division,and imitation are mainly used to better convey the cultural connotations contained in these words and sentences.In the communicative dimension,both literal translation and free translation are adopted,imitation,paraphrase,transliteration,and zero translation with annotation are used to convey the author’s communicative intention and achieve the communicative effect,improve the readability of the translation.This report shows that translation is the process in which the translator makes adaptive selection and transformation to achieve the ecological balance between the source text and the target text after adapting to the ecological environment of the source language and the target language.In this process,the higher the adaptive integrity degree,the higher the translation quality.The report hopes to give some implications for the translation of similar texts.
