A Study On The Definition Of Animal Words In Modern Chinese Based On Generative Lexicon Theory

Definition is the soul of dictionaries and the core content of lexicography.The completeness,accuracy and systematicness of definition are important criteria for evaluating the quality of a dictionary.Animal words are an important part of the vocabulary system.Studying the definition of animal words is of great significance to improve the quality of the definition of noun,guide the teaching of animal words and understand the thinking mode of the Chinese nation.But,through analysis,it is found that the existing definition of animal words lack of completeness,accuracy and systematicness.So,according to the frequency of use,this paper selects 22 animal words commonly used in monosyllabic basic-level categories as the research object,and explores the method of dividing and describing animal words senses based on generative lexicon theory and corpus.Through the division and description of 22 animal words,this paper realizes the completeness of the senses division of selected animal words,improves the accuracy and systematicness of definition of the selected animal words,and establishes the definition mode of basic level category animal words.The thesis consists of three parts:The introduction part summarizes the research status of modern Chinese animal words and generative lexicon theory,introduces the basis of topic selection,research object,theoretical basis,research method,research purpose and the selection of reference dictionary,and explains the source of corpus and the methods of corpus extraction and annotation.The main body consists of five chapters.At the beginning of the first chapter,five qualia roles suitable for the study of animal words are set up according to the semantic characteristics of animal words.Then,this chapter systematically discusses the role of generative lexicon theory in the division and description of animal words senses:(1)The generative lexicon theory can realize the completeness of the division of animal words senses and explain the derivation of animal words senses.(2)The generative lexicon theory can improve the accuracy of the definition of animal words senses.(3)Trough analyzing the systematicness of the definition of 22 animal words in the Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),this paper points out the problems in the definition,The generative lexicon theory can improves the systematicness of animal definition,and establishes the definition model of animal words.Based on the definition of dictionaries,the second chapter divides and describes the senses of mammalian words "HU(虎)","HOU(猴)","MAO(猫)","NIU(牛)","MA(马)","LV(驴)","YANG(羊)","GOU(狗)","ZHU(猪)","TU(兔)","SHU(鼠)","XIONG(熊)","LANG(狼)",and under the guidance of generative lexicon theory and corpus,It also explains the derivative of senses of animal words.The third chapter divides and describes the senses of bird words "JI(鸡)","YA(鸭)","E(鹅)" and "YING(鹰)",and explains the derivative of senses of animal words.The fourth chapter divides and describes the senses of insect words "FENG(蜂)","DIE(蝶)" and "CHAN(蝉)",and explains the derivative senses of animal words.The fifth chapter divides and describes the senses of reptile words "SHE(蛇)" and "GUI(龟)",and explains the derivative senses of animal words.The conclusion summarizes the main research contents and results of this paper,and points out the shortcomings of this paper.
