A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of Capturing Investment: Policy Design To Finance CCUS Projects In The US Power Sector

This report is based on the E-C translation practice of Capturing Investment: Policy Design to Finance CCUS Projects in the US Power Sector.The translated text aims to provide readable graphic materials for domestic scholars to study the policy-making issues related to carbon emission reduction,and it also attempts to function as a reference for translators to translate texts of the similar type.The source text is a policy paper,whose content covers several fields such as carbon emission reduction,power sector and finance.It has the characteristics of both scientific and technical texts and academic papers boasting plain,straightforward language,abundant academic terms,abbreviations,histograms and tables.Therefore,considering the linguistic features of the source text and the purpose of the translation practice,the translator has chosen Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the guidance for the translation practice.By means of literature research and close reading,the translator analyzes the translation cases from the perspectives of vocabulary,sentences,chapters,titles,etc,and has drawn the following conclusions: First,for policy papers with hundreds of academic terms,proper nouns and abbreviations,the translation strategy of foreignization should be adopted to reduce ambiguity and ensure the accuracy of translation.Second,in order to ensure a high degree of functional equivalence between the translated text and the source text,various translation methods should be employed flexibly,such as the combination of literal translation and free translation,transliteration,creative translation and zero translation.Third,in order to make long and complex sentences reasonable in length and clear in logic,various translation skills should be applied,such as division,combination and conversion.
