| This report is based on the Chinese Cyber Security White Paper issued by the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology,which aimed to illustrate the current situation of Chinese cyber security under the influence of COVID-19.During the spread of the disease,the cyber security industry of many countries has suffered.The white paper has analyzed the dilemmas and anticipated the development of Chinese cyber security industry.The report has also completed the translation of the white paper.This report is mainly supported by the functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida,which focuses on the three kinds of equivalence(word,sentence,passage)to analyze the obstacles the author encountered during translation.The author will analyze the white paper and select some of the most typical examples to illustrate why this is hard to translate.Then the author will apply the functional equivalence theory to it and explain why this theory has made it easier.The author will try to summarize an effective way to deal with similar obstacles.Since technical white paper possesses the characters of technical text and white paper,besides the technical terms and long sentences,there will also be a lot of rhetoric elements.The most obvious one is metaphor.Rhetoric hides information within the text,functional equivalence theory is the best way to reveal the information hidden.The main problems could be concluded into three kinds: long sentence with technical terms;short sentence with massive information and official documents.The author analyzes the examples with functional equivalence theory and offers effective strategies from lexical,syntactical and textual level.These strategies include breaking and reforming,re-creating,etc.The report focuses on how to efficiently translate technical white paper.The result shows that achieving equivalence improves the efficiency.However,it is not as expected in translating pure technical text.Overall,it is an effective strategy. |
