English reading and writing skills are the foundation for learning English and play an important role in learning English.Reading and writing as a type of lesson has received widespread attention from experts and scholars and active attempts from teachers in recent years. However, there are still some problems with the implementation of reading and writing classes in high school, for example, some teachers do not understand the internal logic of reading and writing classes, and do not realize the purpose of reading to writing. Most teachers are aware of the advantages of reading and writing classes, but they only stay at the stage of experimentation, and there is no universally accepted teaching model that can be used as a reference. The rise of the flipped classroom offers a solution to this problem. The flipped classroom is a modern teaching concept that uses a web-based platform to flip the content of traditional classrooms between in-class and out-of-class learning, giving the opportunity to combine information technology with English language teaching reform. It facilitates teachers to get straight to the point in class, identify problems and solve them in a more timely manner. It gives students the opportunity to internalize their full knowledge and has more time to complete the whole process of reading for writing. It gives feedback on personalized questions and develops their motivation for learning. This study introduces the flipped classroom model into the teaching of high school English reading and writing classes to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of applying this teaching model to the teaching of high school English reading and writing classes. This paper focuses on the following three questions: First, how to conduct flipped classroom teaching in senior secondary English reading and writing classes? Second, can the flipped classroom facilitate the teaching of high school English reading and writing classes? Third, can the flipped classroom be applied to high school English reading and writing classes to promote students’ reading and writing skills? A total of 44 students in the senior class of Harbin First Middle School were selected as the main subjects of this study, and a mixed-methods study was conducted to investigate the teaching of high school English reading and writing in a flipped classroom for a period of 16 weeks.A combination of questionnaires, interviews, tests and case studies were used to answer the research questions. The study shows that the flipped classroom model is feasible and effective when applied to high school English reading and writing classrooms. The analysis of reading and writing scores shows that the flipped classroom-based teaching model improves students’ English writing scores, and the analysis of questionnaire and interview results shows that the flipped classroom-based teaching model stimulates students’ interest in English learning to a certain extent and promotes personalized teaching. |
