The instruction of Chinese culture courses serves as a significant component of international Chinese education,playing a vital role in helping international students in China comprehend the nation’s history,culture,society,and politics.By studying Chinese culture,students can better perceive and understand China’s cultural context and societal conditions,enhancing their knowledge and understanding of China and laying a foundation for future learning,work,and communication.Therefore,it is a topic worthy of investigation as to how international Chinese educators can utilize a wide range of pedagogical methods and diverse teaching tools to foster the development of Chinese culture instruction,reasonably and scientifically integrate documentaries into cultural teaching,and facilitate effective communication of Chinese culture.Based on the research of the current situation of documentary teaching at home and abroad,this article analyzes the relationship between documentaries and cultural teaching,and elaborates on the necessity and uniqueness of documentaries as teaching resources through the research of cultural teaching and documentaries.Subsequently,this study selects the documentary The Forbidden City 100 and analyzes its application advantages from the perspective of narration,visuals,and structure.It then applies the documentary to the Chinese Overview Course,exploring cultural teaching practice.Through assignment feedback and post-class interviews,the effectiveness of the documentary in teaching is evaluated.The results show that documentaries have remarkable application advantages in teaching.Students approve of documentary teaching,and the documentaries present implicit cultural content through intuitive visual effects,enriching cultural teaching methods and effectively stimulating students’ learning enthusiasm.Based on the findings,this paper puts forward suggestions for applying documentaries to Chinese culture course teaching.Firstly,teachers should follow certain selection principles when using documentaries for teaching,carefully choose documentaries based on the teaching objectives,and analyze their language applicability,artistic appreciation,and cross-cultural differences.Secondly,the selected documentaries should match the textbook content,and teachers should fully utilize the audio-visual features of documentaries to reasonably display the teaching content of various cultural modules.Lastly,teachers should adopt multiple forms to incorporate the application of documentaries throughout the teaching process.It is hoped that this paper will provide valuable reference for the application research of documentaries in international Chinese teaching.
