Woodblock New Year paintings,as a long-standing form of folk culture and art,originated in the Han Dynasty.With the development of Buddhist scripture prints in the Tang Dynasty and the maturity of woodcut techniques,by the Song Dynasty,due to the development and growth of civic culture,woodblock New Year paintings were officially formed during the Northern Song Dynasty and were developed and continued.The Ming and Qing dynasties were the pinnacle of the development of woodblock New Year paintings.In the 29th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing dynasty,the term "New Year paintings" was first introduced in Li Guangting’s treatise"Xiangyan Jieyi".With the development of commercial handicrafts,production areas such as Yangliuqing,Taohuawu,and Yangjiabu emerged,making New Year paintings more diverse in content and form,and more diverse in themes.Due to the functions and product attributes of New Year paintings,folk artists need to consider the preferences of the public when making them,which sets them apart from other arts in terms of form.The style and form of New Year paintings vary depending on regional distribution,local culture,and customs.On the whole,folk woodcut New Year pictures show some common characteristics in the artistic form and the element style of theme performance.They have bold choices and interests in composition and modeling in the decorative elements.Their colors are full of people’s psychological concepts and aesthetics.Their themes use symbolic and allegorical techniques,and they have the characteristics of localization in the expression of artistic language.Through the research on the origin,development and regional distribution of folk woodcut New Year pictures,we further explore the unified and trend style elements,and analyze the artistic language and cultural value of the form and content of folk woodcut New Year pictures from the perspective of decoration and theme.In the contemporary exploration of the evolution and development of modern artistic language,it is an important topic to integrate the western modern language with the elements of localization.In the artistic language of oil painting,people have tried to use the elements of folk woodcut New Year pictures.A group of painters,represented by Gu Liming,deconstructed traditional folk art from the perspective of contemporary art and incorporated it into the painting to transform it into modern artistic elements.Based on the understanding and innovation of the elements of folk woodblock New Year paintings,new forms and connotations are injected into traditional folk culture,in order to better demonstrate the aesthetic trends and historical and cultural values of contemporary art.By analyzing and elaborating on the elements of woodblock New Year paintings,starting from the concept and form of woodblock New Year paintings,this article elaborates on the integration and application of folk customs and style elements in contemporary oil painting creation,combined with specific works;And from the inspiration of woodblock New Year painting elements for personal oil painting creation,practical analysis of the specific application of its elements.
