A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Hongfan Ancient Wells(Excerpts)

In recent years,the study of translating tourism texts between Chinese and English has become a prominent area of research,attracting the attention of numerous scholars.The translation of tourism texts serves as a vital medium for cultural exchange between China and the West,and plays a crucial role in promoting the dissemination of Chinese culture.This translation practice focuses on the tourism promotional book named Hongfan Ancient Wells,published by the government of Hongfanchi Town in Pingyin County,Jinan City,Shandong Province.The book primarily documents the current status,geographical location,legendary stories,and historical and cultural connotations of the ancient well in Hongfanchi Town.The tourism text is notable for its rich content and distinctive linguistic style.This report is guided by the translation Skopos theory of German translator Hans Vermeer,and proceeds from the perspective of the skopos rule,fidelity rule,and coherence rule.It conducts empirical analysis and a summary of the translation practice of the Hongfan Ancient Wells,as well as in-depth research on the translation methods of tourism texts.At the lexical level,the translator adopts the techniques of amplification,annotation,omission and corresponding translation to solve and discuss the difficulties in the source text,such as personal names and identities,place nouns,four-character idioms,and cultural-loaded words.At the syntactic level,the translator analyzes and resolves translation doubts in complex sentences,non-subject sentences and poetry through methods such as splitting and restructuring,adding subjects,and providing explanations.At the discourse level,the translator investigates and assesses approaches to enhancing the quality of tourism text translation from the perspectives of cohesion and coherence.The translator applies case analysis as a research method to illustrate the validity of Skopos theory in directing the translation of tourism texts.This translation practice aims to provide correct theoretical guidance and appropriate translation methods for the translation of tourism texts that contain content related to ancient wells,through the translation of Hongfan Ancient Wells.Additionally,it aims to offer a point of reference for future translators who will be translating similar texts.
