China is the largest of the four countries with an ancient civilization with rich natural, historical and beautiful cultural landscapes. Since the reform and opening up, China has made large steps forward on the road of tourism industry; especially after the successful holding of 2008 Olympic Games, China has attracted more foreign tourists. Tourism industry, the sunrise industry, has brought an increasingly obvious"multiplier effect"with the development of China's economy. When foreign tourists visit China, they tend to know the tourist attractions and their features by reading tourism materials. Therefore, the translation of tourist attractions and brochures becomes the focus of foreign tourists, and the quality of the translation will have a direct impact on their understanding of China's unique culture.Until the 1990s, a lot of translation theorists and scholars began to pay attention to the research of tourism translation. At present, in the process of translating tourism text, there are some problems, and lots of domestic translators have proposed some related skills and strategies combining theory and case analysis, and put forward measures from different angles. However, many of these methods have neither been related to some translation theories, nor to a clear theoretical framework to have an overall grasp of the tourism text translation.In view of this situation, this paper aims to make a comprehensive description of the tourism text translation, by combining the"theme-information highlighting principle"with the German functional Skopos Theory, and proposes a new model of translation as means of promoting the development of tourism text translation, that is, after the rewriting with the theme-information highlighting principle, the Chinese tourism text will achieve the best English version under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The introduction introduces China's tourism development, the current status of domestic tourism translation as well as the feasibility of Skopos Theory for the purpose of tourism text translation.The first chapter is literature review.The second chapter explains the translation model of tourism texts, including the introduction of tourism text, text analysis and comparison between a new translation model and the general one.The third chapter presents the"theme-information highlighting principle", under which the source language could be rewritten during C-E translation.The fourth chapter is the prime one. This paper mainly introduces the German Skopos Theory and tourism text translation under its guidance.In the fifth chapter, the author reaches a conclusion by the above analysis and other theorists'opinions, i.e., the principle of choosing and nurturing qualified translators.In the end, in the light of the German Skopos Theory's point of view"the end justifies the means", the author concludes a new translation model about tourism text. The author hopes that this paper could give some suggestions to tourism text translation, and could further improve the quality and maximize the transmission of Chinese culture to foreign readers.
